PLEASE HELP - In memory of Sam - UPDATE

As some of you know, my mom's 10-month old pug Sam died almost a month ago. (Photo in my avatar). He went in to be neutered and died. My mom is taking the vet to court because she thinks he was at fault. Apparently, there was no tech or assistant in the room, and following Sam's death, in the middle of the neutering, the vet did not bother to close him up. So, my mom had the traumatic experience of picking a deceased puppy up that was left open!

She is now gathering evidence for her case and could use any statements from a vet stating, customarily, it is their professional opinion that a tech or assistant should be present during a neutering. If any of you have a relationship with their vet, please ask if they would be able to write something along these lines. She truly believe that if someone else was in the room, monitoring the dog as the vet did the procedure, his death would have been avoided.

We'd really appreciate your help!

Her court date is the week of June 6th. Please FM me if you can help.

Thank you!

I'm not a vet, but I was wondering, Did your mom have the pre-surgical testing done? That's where they do blood work to make sure the puppy is fit for surgery. It does cost extra. We paid $58 to have it done on Pastina.

He did have all the necessary blood work done first - it all indicated he was healthy for the procedure.

J,

Try contacting Kathy116. I believe her husband is a vet out on the island.

Would you mind posting who the vet is, so I know never to use this vet? You can FM me, if you would like.

So sorry about the dog.

I'm so so sorry. I hope the judge rules in your favor.

Re: PLEASE HELP - In memory of Sam - UPDATED

Since in the state of NY your pet is considered your property, instead of you as the guardian (in other states such as CA), there was not much the judge could do. My mom knew this going in but wanted her day in court to make it clear to the vet that she believes there was some malpractice. Anyway, she made her point.

Thanks for all your help and thoughts girls.
