Please help me!

Please help me!

I know this is the brides helping brides section but I am a Groom who is at a total loss right now and I need some SERIOUS (female) help to make my Future Wife as happy as possible on our wedding day. Here is the major dilemma:

Our wedding is set for December 9th of 2011, we are getting married at a Church with a full mass in Queens. The start time is 3:30, our reception is at Floral Terrace and we can pretty much start that when ever we want (between 7-8pm realistically). We just went yesterday to speak with a Photographer about wedding pictures and pretty much got a bomb dropped on us that by the time we leave the church (figuring 4:45-5pm) it's going to be dark outside (sunset on that day is for 4:28pm) and there will be really no place to go to get outdoor pictures. My Fiance was destroyed! She really wants some kind of outdoor wedding pictures, she spent the whole night crying because we couldn't come up with any decent ideas. I don't want to see her cry or in the future when we look at our pictures have regrets that we couldn't get the outdoor pictures we wanted. We can't change the wedding start time and we can't change from the full mass to just a ceremony. We have roughly 3 hours from the time the Church ends to the time the Cocktail hour starts, now factor in driving time to a location for pictures time to take pictures then driving time to Floral terrace plus traffic, it's very stressful for her at this point and I don't want that!

So please I beg of any future brides past brides or anyone! Please help me to help her. I really need some ideas of a place in Queens/Nassau that would have enough light to take some nice outdoor pictures around 4:30-5:30pm in December.

What about taking pictures before the ceremony? That way you'll have plenty of light! And then you can take pictures at night later. Having both sets of pictures is really great!

I appreciate the very quick reply! I actually thought of that, but she is very traditional. So the whole not seeing the groom until the actual ceremony is something that is important to her.

My thoughts are to see each other before and take pics, or are you against outside pics in the dark with great lighting? When I was looking at Westbury Manor we walked the outside grounds at night and they have amazing lighting there. Also I took pics myself to really get a better idea and they were great. Plus photographers work wonders with editing. So, if you aren't against paying a site fee maybe look into options like that?

PS. My fiance would use my account to do research when he was home and I was at work. I think it's great that youre using us a resource. Good Luck.

If sunset is at 4:30 there is not going to be anywhere that you can take pictures outside.

That was one of the reasons that we are taking pictures before the ceremony so that we do not have to worry about the sunset!

Is it possible for you to make your ceremony a half hour earlier?

How about asking the photographer if they have any lights that they could bring? Or maybe you can find a park that has sufficient lighting?

Maybe there is a location outside of the church that you could use...this way the pics would be taken right after the ceremony at sunset...

I would definitely suggest a 'reveal' before your ceremony, it will still be a sacred moment between you guys and you can get your outdoor pictures taken care of, then it's all good

What about doing a TTD shoot or day after shoot? You guys can get all dolled up again and take pictures in a unique location. You can be a little more bold with your photos and you'll definitely get any shots you might miss on your wedding day. I was actually a little bummed that we DIDN'T get any night photos on our wedding day. Good luck!

Does your Church have a nice garden area by any chance? Is it possible to change your wedding time at all? 2pm or at LEAST 3pm, then skip the receiving line?

I'm also getting married in Queens and going to Queens Botanical gardens right after to take pics. It's located on Main Street close to the Expressway. You'd never expect it, but it's gorgeous.

Good luck, you're such a sweet husband-to-be!

Re: Please help me!

my sister had her wedding at the Floral Terrace this past July we took pics in between the 3:30 mass and the start of the cocktail hour at The Garden City Gazebo. You dont need a permit for there so you can just drive up and take pics. It wasnt that far from the reception hall maybe 15 minutes. Also if your factoring driving time keep in mind that the really big SUV limos and party limo buses are not allowed on the parkways. most SUV limos are but i think if it exceeds a certain size its not, i know the party bus wasnt.

I can't see why the church wouldn't allow an earlier start...it is a Friday right?

Re: Please help me!

Thank you all for the replies!! I appreciate it so much.

It is a Friday and we are looking into seeing if the church can do a little earlier than 3:30 maybe 3:00 or 2:30.

We did check into Queen's Botanical Gardens, they close at 4:30 during the month of December so that would only work if we could move up the wedding time.

I am also looking into seeing if the Photographers can provide extra lighting to brighten up the pictures or backgrounds. That's the whole concern, is to not hae every picture with black backgrounds cause of no ambient light.

Flushing Meadow Park by the uni-sphere was an option and I know they have a little place overlooking the lake that might be lit up at night. Was trying to get other options also that people may have used or could think of. I was also looking into if there was a Lit up Gazebo at night somewhere. Again thank you so much for all this help!!

Look into the Hempstead House, they have an outdoor area, but just in case it gets too dark, you can always do pics inside...the inside it as beautiful as the outside!!

Good luck!!

Don't worry about the sunset. I have a friend that got married in November, and still took some beautiful pictures outside around 8PM. Your photographer should have the proper lighting to take some pictures outside at night! All will be beautiful, don't stress!

Re: Please help me!

There will be christmas lights up in some areas around that time. That will provide light. Ive seen a bunch of photographers have pictures at night ( i cant imagine a photographer not being prepared for a couple that wants some kind of outdoor shot)

the first pic when you open the page is at night in the winter

OMG You sound like the best fiance ever! So sweet!!!!!

I'm not all too familiar with queens, but i think night time pictures are beautiful!!! Since the wedding is around xmas, taking pictures by xmas lights would be an option and really pretty.

Sorry i dont really have any other ideas, but it will be beautiful regardless!!!!
