Ok, all of you have been so helpful. I know I just posted asking about an officiant and a lot of people had great suggestions. One of my co-workers gave me the number for a justice of the peace from Town Hall who would do the ceremony for $200. We really have a tight budget. My friend told me that she has never heard of anyone who is 'good' charging less than $500. I

An officiant would do a religious or spiritual ceremony. They also do the sand ceremony, the unity candles, the rose ceremony, hand ceremony, lighting of a memorial candle. Not sure of a Justice of the Peace would do those 'extra' things if you want them as part of your ceremony. One way to find out : call and ask

Re: Please help me again...
We had DH's sister perform the majority of the ceremony...then had our Town Clerk (from the marriage license office) come do what was necessary to make it all legal...she charged us $75 and was great! We were just going to use DH's sister, but it turned out the on-line ordination she got wasn't legal with our license office...that's where the Town Clerk came in...HTH! We got alot of compliments on our ceremony...it was non religious (but mentioned God) and we wrote our own vows.

Thanks for the info! I just called and spoke to the husband of the Town Clerk. He informed me that she only has jurisdiction in Brookhaven. He said- 'For example, she would not have jurisdiction at say, the Thatched Cottage.' That is where I am getting married! lol He said we could have her do a ceremony at the Town Hall to be legal and then have her come to TC. But, I know they charge $75 for the Town Hall ceremony and $200 to travel so I am guessing I would pay $275 total? I got an e-mail back from Pastor April today. She would only be a little more expensive than that if we choose not to meet with her in advance. We do really need to cut corners though. I should have asked if his wife would do the candle ceremony and all of that but he seemed surprised that I was calling so far in advance. Ahh!

That is weird that an officiant would be cheaper if you didn't meet with them. Makes the ceremony seem impersonal. I loved my officiant, she really personalized our ceremony for us. We meet in person and talked on the phone so she could get to know us.

maybe you could get the Town Clerk whose jurisdiction is in the same town as TC? just an idea....we got married in the town we live in so i didn't even think about jurisdiction issues..sorry!
