It's ridiculous that they can't play Dave Matthews with the amount of money you're spending! That's outrageous, you should be able to hear what you want. At worst, buy the CD and have them play it. I'd love to know thier reasoning for not being able to play it!

What do you mean they can't play it?

This is what they wrote to me:

NO. We don't know any Dave Matthews. That is a very difficult band to copy. It's not you run of the mill music.

that's strange...i've heard plenty of bands sing DMB songs...

That's a bit of BS. When you hired them, did they say they learn new songs?

Honesly DMB is not a difficult to play. My brother is an amateur guitarist and taught himself many Dave songs. Most of their songs are a few basic cords.

I love DMB, I'd be disappointed if my band couldn't pull together one song of his. If you have your heart set on that, I'd bring the CD and ask them to throw it in for your BP entrance. Maybe then they'll learn it.

if i was told that weeks before my wedding, id tell them that youre gonna bring in a cd player- cause you shoudl have any song you want

if they are good musicians - they will learn it

sorry they dissapointed you

but just as a side- my fmil is still v. upset to this day b/c they told her the day of her wedding they didnt know how to play 'just the way you are'....so maybe its better you know know and can do something

OMG!!!I would be soooo pissed! My brother learned how to play Grey Street on the guitar by himself (he's a hugh DMB fan) and there are a ton of those DMB cover bands so I'm sure they could learn how to play at least one song!!!
Anyway...I vote for 'Children' but I've never heard a band play it before.
ETA: What DMB song were you thinking of?

For my sister's wedding, the DJ played Crazy in Love. It got everyone pumped up...myself included cuz I was in the wedding party...Great song to set the mood!

I would talk to the band again. Either they can learn it, or be embarrassed when you play a CD.

Don't sacrifice the song you want!

All I wanted was 'Ants Marching' how mainstream of a song is that?!?! We are big DMB fans and so are some members of my BP and I thought it would be fun to come into that - I picked it cause I was for sure they would know it....oh well - it's our own fault we should of asked them a year ago when we booked them

If that is the song that you want then they should learn it. It sounds like they are just being a little lazy. For my boss's wedding we pulled together a band and learned 40 new songs in about a week and with one rehersal. While we are all musicans we are not a wedding band, but hey maybe we should think about becoming one if that is the attitude of these people. Point is it can be done. I would ask again and explain how much the song means to you.

I vote for J-Lo's song....that will have every one up and moving...just want you want :) Good luck in your decision. Can't believe your band can't play Dave Matthews. Feel bad that that's what you wanted and they can't do it!!

Thanks everyone!! I think we are gonna go with J-Lo - it seems to be everyone's choice - and we want something to get people in the mood. I think it will sound good with the band.. Bummed out about DMB but I'll get over it - we have our Rehersal Dinner - I am gonna make sure to bring my CD's and have them play it there (that I know they will because I used to work there )

Thanks Everyone!
