Please help me with my church dilemma!!!! (LONG - sorry!)

Please help me with my church dilemma!!!! (LONG - sorry!)

This is the problem. FH has had his heart set on getting married at a paticular church his whole life. He went to school there, was an altar boy there, attended services there, etc.

We have been given the run-around for 6 months now when we call and inquire about getting married there. We call and call and they never call us back. Its not like you can be too aggressive -ya gotta respect them! Finally we got in touch and they penciled us in for the date. Then we call and want to come in and talk to a priest and they told us oh you have to schedule pre-cana, and then come back and talk to us. We said our pre-cana isnt scheduled til November (wanted to make it as close to the wedding date as possible) and we cant wait until then to know whether or not we are getting married there. So we finally get an appt to come and see a priest after I left countless messages and received no calls back.

We go and see the priest and he cant give us a straight answer on whether or not we are definitely getting married there. They keep saying just come see us after the pre-cana. I have to have my invitations before then because FSIL is addressing them and I want to give her plenty of time (she has 5 kids).

I must mention that we have heard from SEVERAL other couples in the area that they had the same problems with this church and all of them have decided to forget that church, and find another one to get married at where there arent problems like this. Mind you, these are people that went to this church their whole life and even attended school there. Its just a huge hassle.

So my question is, do you think we should continue to pursue this church, or just say F-it, and find another one that makes us feel welcome?

I orginally wanted to get married there for FH, but now he is so fed up he just wants to choose another church.

What do you think? Have you had similar experiences??

I had a similar experience, but once I offered $$ the situation changed. It stinks but there are certain 'in demand' churches that do this.
It is hard to keep the best level of respect but at the same time get business done.

Good Luck

Is there any way you can attend pre-cana as soon as possible instead of waiting for the scheduled class?

Well the truth is - I dont want to. I scheduled it for November, figuring that its as close to the wedding as possible without interfering with the holidays and being too close to the wedding.

Hmmmm I guess that is an option though. I will talk it over with FH! Thanks girlie!!!!

Is it possible that this is one of the stricter chruches in the diocese (sorry, I am reaching, it's not my faith) and they really want to know how well you do in pre-caena before they will commit the date to you?

Don't really understand why you wouldn't just try to schedule your pre-cana earlier? My FH and I did it a year before our wedding so that we didnt have to rush to do it. Its fun and it may mean less stress to do it this way.

is there any way you can schedule a backup church now, just in case, and then cancel it later on as long as you get to book the church you want?

well you might remember I had a ton of probelms..because we are getting married a friday during Lent...well we did go to FH's church, BUT the reason we decided to go there in the long run was because they were soo nice and respectful of us...A roman Catholic church...I dont even need to make my communion before hand and no problem about Lent....I hate to say this but I would go somewhere you felt more comfortable...too much stress it sounds like with this church!!
