please help! spinoff to tipping maitre d'

so let me get this straight...

say the sum of the charges per person are $100, and you're having 50 guests....

your total bill is $5000... then 20% is added as a service charge (another $1000).

when you give out the tips, you give roughly $150 ($3x50) to the maitre d'....

but what about the rest of the staff and the bartender? That is another 15% of $5000 ($650), divided among them?

I'm so confused, and I must pack the tip envelopes this week

Please help!

I'm confused about this as well......I think your (and my) best bet is to ask your banquet manager who is covered by the service charge.

Yes...that's what you should do. Also...if you overtip the suggested amount...the house gets the extra NOT the bridal attendant or maitre d' etc. In their employee contract it states the % per wedding anything over that is not given to them...

I went for my final meeting with the RH lastnight and we had to pay 18% to the hall for service charge. It was explained to us this goes to the staff (waitresses, bartenders, etc.). The Maitre'd, Bridal Attendant and Coordinator do not get any of it.....and believe me he mentioned this point a few times

The suggested tip for the maitre d' is $3,-$5 ppl, so if you have 50 guests, then the min. of tip is $150 for her,
the bartender gets tip from the guest, so you don't need to tip him
and that 20% of service charge cover the staff already. So you dont need to tip them extra.
But if you feel they do a good job and you really don't mind to spend another 5or 600 to tip them. It is totally up to you. Does your hall has a bridal attendent? If you do You should tip her too.

thanks! I'll double check with the hall.... nope, no bridal attendant... I also want to avoid having the guests tip the bartender...
