So DH's brother's wedding is Saturday. Its very informal, 50 people, no bridal party. DH is the best man. His brother told him to wear any suit, he, the groom isn't wearing a tux, he's wearing a charcoal suit. So DH just bought a new suit. Its a nice Navy suit. What color shirt and tie do you wear with a Navy suit? He came back from Macy's and bought a whole bunch of shirts and ties. I am clueless when it comes to men's fashion. I thought the plain white shirt looked way too stark next to the dark navy, but he also bought 3 light blue shirts, I think its too much blue! I thought men's fashion was supposed to be easy! What does your DH wear with a Navy suit? What do you think, light blue or white shirt? I don't think he wants to shop again tomorrow! Please help. He's giving me an endless fashion show of shirt/tie combos as we speak, and I'm not crazy about any of them.

The ties are pretty classic - all have lighter blue, silver and navy -- my favorite of the bunch is diagonal stripes. He also had one like that already! I guess the shirt is the bigger issue than the tie. When he bought the suit, the guy in the store told him not to wear a white shirt, to buy a lavender or peach shirt, and wine colored tie -- I don't get that! He just came out with one of the blue shirts. I think its just too much blue! I think an Ivory shirt would be best, but he didn't buy one. Now I'm watching our wedding video to see what the men are wearing -- most are wearing black or grey suits with white shirts. One guy has a bright pink shirt and tie -- and he is a quiet guy, its pretty funny! I guess his wife picked out his shirt - I don't know how to pick out my husbands shirt! He bought darker purple to go with his lavender shirt. It actually didn't look bad, but I don't know if its clashing.

i would go traditional, Navy suit with a white shirt and navy tie. Classy but not too dressed up! then you can wear a navy dress to match. Or have him wear a burgandy shirt if he wants more color, with the navy suit and either navy or burgandy tie :) hope that helps!

thank you! I'm leaning towards the white shirt after seeing the light blue ones. I'm not matching him though -- I'm wearing a little black dress that I bought a while ago. Its funny, I'm fine dressing myself- really I am, I just don't know what mens suits are supposed to look like. I'm used to just seeing black at a fancy event, never thought about Navy before.

FH either wears a very pale yellow shirt, light blue or white shirt with his navy suit.

yup fh always wears yellow and navy. Maybe if hes going to wear white, it could be a textured white shirt...I hate those white shirts that look like kinda see thru?

I dress DH in a classic white or light blue broadcloth shirt with his navy suit, tie depends upon the shirt. He wears burgundy dress shoes with navy socks to match the suit.
Ivory shirts always look 'off color' to me, as if they are old white ones that have discolored.
The ties sound great with the mix of silver, light blue and navy. He could even go with tie that has burgundy tones (not red) in it.
I just like the classic look on a guy, and nothing is more classic than a crisp white shirt with a suit.

I agree with the lavendar shirt. DH has done the navy blue suit with light blue shirt and to tell you the truth i thought it was EH not crazy about it. So another time he wore his navy blue suit i suggested the lavendar shirt with a gold tie and im glad he did it bc i liked it better lol, i look at the pics of his navy suit with light blue shirt and doesnt look as dressy to me or just doesnt say wow. I posted on the NW board but ill post here too.
ALSO, i like cranberry or cinnamon with navy blue, so maybe an ivory shirt with a cranberry or cinnamon tie. Pink tie goes GREAT also with navy blue but for this time of year maybe he wants something a bit darker, unless he doesnt care.
ETA: here is navy blue with a light blue shirt, i like it dont get me wrong but i thought my idea was better

wow, thank you ladies, and especially you denise for posting the pics. DH just looked at the pics and likes the blue better. Your hubby looks great in both of them, and you look so cute in the pic! Isn't it crazy that the wedding is tomorrow and we are worrying about this now! We are such horrible procrastinators!

I would actually go with a pale blue shirt dress shirty w/a navy suit for a pop of color and then do a nice tie. Or an off white shirty, just not a stark white shirt. I think that might look a little too much like a security guard outfit than a dress suit. JMO!
