Please help! What should I do???????

My DH and are are ready to TTC in a few months and I just went off BC. I made an appt. with my OBGYN for a check up and to ask questions about TTC.

Well, at work yesterday, someone asked who I go to and I told him Dr. XXXXX. Well, one older woman yelled across the lunch table 'never go to him!' She told me that he has several malpractice lawsuits against him and her friend is one of them. She didn't get into details about her friend's lawsuit but also had told me that Dr. XXXXX said something to her like 'it's because you are a minority'. Well, I dont' know what context he was using that term in or if he really said that at all. This woman does have a tendency to always want to seem right and smart and she is very annoying.

The conversation continued with other people telling me that they know other dr.s in their practices have been sued and they dont' care.

My Dr. does not deliver anymore (he's much older) and he would not be the one to deliver my baby. The woman who told me all this said that he's not allowed to deliver anymore because of there lawsuits and that all the dr.s in his office tried to get out of the practice with him.

I have been going to him for a few years and like him and the way his office treats me.

Knowing all of this would you go to him? My appt. is this tuesday! I wanted this appt to be a happy and exciting one and now I feel it's turned into complete stress!

If you are comfortable with him, I would continue going.
WHo knows what really happened, and I try not to reply on second or third party stories, whenever possible.
Ask him about it - say someone told you some things about him and see if they are true or not.
You have a right to know, if he's your doctor!
good luck!

In today's sue friendly world I would not be surprised if all of our doctors have malpractice suits against them. Just because people sue doesn't mean the doctor actually did anything wrong.

But in general I feel more comfortable with going to the same doctor that is going to deliver so I would switch for that reason.

I would go, but think twice... I might look them up online. There is a site to check out which doctors where sued and why. I hope this helps. Good luck TTC! I think you have to do what you are going to be happy with. I tend not to ever go with one person's experience because it is usually pretty biased and not so germaine to me. That said, so many OB's have lawsuits now, I think you are going to have a hard time finding a practice with noone who has ben sued. The system is set up that if something goes wrong with pregnancy, the doctor gets sued...that is why Kerry and Bush keep talking about the crisis and need for tort reform. I mean, I always check the malpractice site on any new doc I go to but with OBs (and surgeons) there are so many frivolous suits that I don't think you can just go by that, IMO. In any event, if you are happy with this person, then I would go to him. Congratulations on being at such a happy place!
