Totally gross- I know- but, a dermatologist told me to try mayo once.. The oils restore your scalp & hair.. However, it is ANNOYING to wash it all out, but it did work!

My FH has it really bad since the winter started. He bought this little bottle in the shampoo aisle in CVS that is meant for treating dandruff. All it says on the bottle is therapeutic shampoo. It has sallicylic acid in it. He swears by it.

The ONLY one that works is Neutrogena T-Gel....I swear it really is the one, The only drawback is the smell.

I get extra dry scalp too..try massaging your conditioner in your scalp..it's kinda like putting lotion on your skin to prevent ashy-ness lol

I have THE EXACT same problem. I thought it was caused from the birth of my son. I NEVER had flakes and ickyness like this. I've tried Head and Shoulders, switching shampoo from time to time, and I still have that flake. EEEWWWHHH. In any event. My scalp isn't itchy, it's just flakey now .Speaking as a Dead Head, I need a miracle , cause this s h i t is NOT going over!!!!

You can use mayo or an egg. If you use mayo, only use A LITTLE BIT. Yes, I did this in middle school and smelt like a salad for about 2 weeks-I just blamed it on whoever was next to me at the time.

Alternate Head and Shoulders and your regular shampoo.

I have the same problem right now. I've used everything -- T-gel, Selson Blue, H&S....Nothing works.

I worked at a hair salon for a few years and my hairdresser there said use Mayo. Scrub it into the scalp and let it sit for a while. Wash it out REALLY WELL and shampoo your hair. Should do the trick.

Gosh I thought it was just me and the stress of the wedding! The first time it happened I thought it was the birth of my daughter, but I guess the weather explains it! You think I would've noticed since my hands are dry as sand and cracking and peeling!! I put lotion on last night and it didn't even help!

whatever you use, massage your scalp REALLY well and make sure to wash out every last bit of shampoo. you wanna make sure your scalp is clean and there're no leftover flakes to trap dirt or anything. i personally use selsun blue, nioxin (expensive, but gets your scalp REALLY clean), or this gentle japanese shampoo i get from nyc.

tip: don't use baby shampoo, it's actually really harsh and drying.

Here's the thing- you shampoo your hair once a day and then blow dry it. The blow drying also causes the flaking. Plus with regular body dryness you can moisterize a million times a day but not with your hair.

What I would do use an olive oil or baby oil and put it in a spray bottle. Then part your hair as if you were dying it and spray it on the roots. Massage it in well. You can do it once a day and it won't be all over your hair. Then you can shampoo it out and towel dry your hair really well. Let it air dry for a little while so that when you do blow dry you spend less time under the dryer. Good luck!
