Please Look Over My Flower Order!

Please Look Over My Flower Order!

Hi Girls,
I've always intended to DIY all our flowers to save $$$. My family suggested that at least to look into getting my bridal bouquet pro made. I looked briefly into it. Not worth the cost in my opinion for something I can do.

So I'm back to DIY-ing.

Getting ready to place a order from a wholesaler in DC that a friend rec'd to me. She used them last year when she made all the flowers for her cousin's wedding.

Anyhoo, here's my order. Does it look like I'm missing anything?

- Red Gerberas are for my bouquets. I'm order 2 bunches a total of 20 stems should be more than enough for 1 bouquet.
- White Gerbera daisies are for BM bouquets and centerpieces. I'm thinking about 15 stems per bouquet and 1 stem per table (12 tables)
Head table will be red & white depending on what's leftover. I ordered 6 bunches (60 stems)
- Red Germini is for FI's bout. I'll use leftovers somewhere as decoration. Maybe 1 as my hair flower. Decorate the basket holding the programs, etc.
- Green Yoko Ono Poms are for GM's boutonniere.
- Family bouts will be a mixture of green poms & red hypericum berries.
- The galax leaves are to border the bottom of the bouquets.

I have green tape, ribbons, etc already.

Honestly, I would be nervous that some stems would get damaged or some flowers would be less than perfect and you might want to order one extra of everything. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Re: Please Look Over My Flower Order!

Hi ladies!
Thanks!!!

I did a trial last summer so the # of stems I'm listing is already adding a couple extra stems per bouquet.

IE I made my bouquet last summer with 10 stems only but wanted it a littler fuller for mine.

So I figured ordering 15 for each BM bouquet should be fine.

I def have more hypericum berries than I need. I only need to make 5 bouts with them.

I really only need 1 Germini stem for FI's bout. There's 10 in the bunch.

I probably only need 9-10 stems max of the poms but doubled the order.

The seller I'm using is Potomac Wholesale Florist based in DC.

The one I was going to go with before was Fifty Flowers which is very popular among brides DIYing their bouquets. But Potomac's pricing was cheaper and closer to the city!

Thanks!

ETA: If you actually live in the city I would consider going to check out the prices of Midtown's Florist District. Or the Chelsea Flower Market.
I don't live in NYC and will be traveling back for the wedding. So ordering online will save us one thing to do.

I'm in the midst of a certificate program for Floral Design at the NY Botanical Gardens. (just for fun).

I would recommend adding some floral life to your order (if you haven't already) and making sure you condition the Daisies properly (a full day before the event). Also, are you using plastic sleeves or wire or will you be wiring and taping each daisy to ensure the heads don't droop? Make sure you practice a ton

Good luck!

How fun!!!

I have green floral wire already and will be using that. And I'm having the flowers delivery Thursday for my Saturday wedding.

I did a trial last summer where I basically tried to recreate the sequence of events.
Gettign the flowers 2 days prior.
Let it sit in a fridge with no food (will be using cooler instead)
Make the bouquets (floral wire, floral tape etc)
Then I put it back in the fridge for a day (we'll make them Friday the day before the wedding)
Pulled it out the next day (wedding day!) and let it sit out in the heat and sun for a full day.

Did this in August to try and recreate temps etc as best as possible.

The bouquet was looking great at the end of the day.

The bouquet actually even lasted indoors for almost a week!!!

What's floral life? If that the floral food?

Thanks!!!

Sounds like you have it all down! Floralife (I spelled it wrong) is a flower food used in the industry. You have to measure the EXACT amount for the water you are using to store your flowers but when you do the flowers are MUCH stronger and last longer. Gerber daisies typically last from 4-6 days this would probably push towards the 6 to 8 day range.

Here's a site which sells the most commonly used one: http://michaelsfloralsupply.com/h3170.html

Also, if you REALLY want to ensure the bouquets and bouts ect. will shine throughout the day, here is what you spray (using only once): http://www.floralife.com/industry_professionals/our_products/finishing_touch_spray.asp
