For the life of me, I can't lose weight-WW isn't really helping me, so I wanted to try Atkins. How is it? Have you been succcessful? I wouldn't say I'm overweight, but I definitely need to lose about 8-10 pounds-they are the hardest! I work out 5 times a week-pretty intensely-I think I need something more strict-b'/c WW allowed me freedom to eat sugar-I'm way too addicted to sugar-I need to break the habit-please help! If I know I can have it-I will!

Re: Please post Atkins Success Stories
I have just a little success story.. I've been on Atkins for 2 and a half weeks and I already lost 15 pounds.
Just a little success story from me.. hopefully 2 months from now I can post that I've lost 40 or 50!
I also did the same thing. I did WW for many months and lost 40 pounds.. got sick of it so moved along to Atkins. Good Luck in whatever you choose.

Re: Please post Atkins Success Stories
I had a similar experience with Atkins...within the first 3 weeks, I also lost close to 15 lbs....but, once you start to incorporate some carbs back into the diet (I found) that it became VERY difficult to avoid the carbs altogether.
I am now seeing a nutritionist for help, instead of depriving myself from carbs. Hopefully, it will work out better for me.
I will say, the nutritionist said the only problem she sees with Atkins is that the diet makes NO distinction between good carbs (those with plenty of fiber) and bad carbs - it just tells you to remove all carbs from your diet. Well, most veggies and fruit are high in fiber, and there's really no reason you shouldn't eat them (in a reasonable portion size).

Re: Please post Atkins Success Stories
Hi glittergal2811,
It will be two years at the end of the month that I want on a low carb diet. I did not follow any program, it took a little longer then if I did Atkins but I lost 40lbs. I kept most of it off. I started to gain weight this summer and joined WW after labor day. My goal was to lose 17lbs, I have only lost 7lbs. I have the same problem, I am addicted to sugar. I am better off getting it out of my system and the craving starts to go a way. I m debating whether or not to give it another try. I have been out of control these last few weeks and haven't gotten weighted in.
Godd Luck. Danielle

It hasn't been that bad. I thought not having pasta and bread would kill me. But after the first 3 days, I was fine.
Day 2 I had a headache, but once I got thru that I've been fine. The weird thing is, if I could eat anything right now, it wouldnt be a potato or pasta or bread. It would be a white chocolate mocha from Starbucks. Really weird. I see everyone carrying those cups and I start to drool. LOL

Re: Please post Atkins Success Stories
I did Atkins a few years ago and lost a lot of weight. Then like Claud says I started to put Carbo's back again and forget it. Then years later I tried it again and only kept gaining! Don't understand why I had done it the same way years ago. Now WW seems to working a whole lot better for me.

Re: Please post Atkins Success Stories
Been doing Atkins since late July and lost 20 lbs. I was very strict during the first month, loosened up a little (but very little - still no bread/pasta, but other not obvious carbs). Anyway, in the past month, I've kinda let loose on occassion (while we were in Disney) but still came home from the trip a pound less than when we left. So I'm guessing I've just found the right balance for me. I was a major carb junkie - could live on nothing but BREAD - not kidding. But now I do let myself have the tiniest portion of mac & cheese or rice, etc but only eat low carb bread and very rarely. I never thought I could go a day without bread - I'm serious, I was addicted - but I'm doing fine! Good luck!!! If I can do it, ANYONE can!!!

Wow-congrats to all of you who have had such great success! I am at a loss for myself-I really don't know where to begin-I was thinking of cutting carbs to 125g a day-I eat about 300 -350 on average-I don't think I can just do 20- any thoughts?

I've been doing atkins for a while now and I lost 55 pds. The 20 grams of carbs is only for two weeks, after that you increase your carb intake. I suggest before you start it read the articles and details on the 'diet'. I've seen a lot of people stating that you can eat high fat all the time and that they don't distinguish betweeen good carbs and bad carbs. that is absolutley not true. They have a thing called 'net carbs' in which they distinguish between good and bad carbs and also teach you how to. When it comes to eating stay away from a lot of high fat foods and try to bake or grill. Also don't forget to exercise because that is still very important. You have to decide what is right for your body. Go to the website read the articles because it is not just a quick 'diet'. If you just cut it off and go on a carb binge you can gain it all back, just like with any other diet over eating anything is not good for you. If you still aren't sure if it's right for you go and speak to a doctor. Doctors are still torn between whether this is a good 'diet' or not. Just be careful and read before doing anything. You can do anything you put your mind too. Take it from me.
Good Luck

Re: Please post Atkins Success Stories
I did Atkins from July till Nov ( taking a 'break' for the holidays) and lost 25 lbs in total and 7 1/2 inches off my waist. I still have 15 more lbs I would like to lose but I will wait till after the holidays. I never really did it strict so the weight loss was slow for me. FM if you have any questions.

When my doctor first wanted me to start losing weight, she suggested that I limit my carbs to 150 a day. I think that might be a better plan for you than Atkins. I've been reading tons and tons of reports of people dying and needing heart surgery after being on Atkins - it really isn't as safe as people would have you believe.
Be ESPECIALLY careful if there is a history of heart disease in your family, because one of the biproducts of metabolising protein only is a chemical that is extra bad for your heart. But then, one of the stories I read talked about a guy who had NO heart issues at all, and recently needed an angioplasty after going on Atkins. I just don't think it's safe.

Re: Please post Atkins Success Stories
I lost 40 lbs this year doing low-carb. I hope to loss another 15 in the months ahead.
We don't 'count' carbs, but eat low-carb foods. We have all the low-carb veggies we want: spinach, brocolli, etc.
Our doctor said what we are doing is a cross between Atkins and Sugar busters and he gave it the OK. But it is a good idea to check with your DR first before this type of change.
DH lost 45 lbs and his cholosterol improved in the first 3 months...
