My mother used to own a florist, and I worked there for YEARS.

My mother and I just did some wedding flowers for a friend of mine in silk. They came out wonderful! I will post pics if anyone is interested.

My mother and I were thinking of doing silk wedding flowers on a freelance basis for some side money.

What do you think? Is there a market on LI for this?
Do I need to become incorportated to do this? Do we need to claim this money as income on our taxes? I was thinking about advertising on LIWeddings, but there are SO MANY Florists already advertising on this site. I was just curious to see the demand for Silks, and if it is worth spending the money for advertising.

I would love your opinions and input, positive or negative!

Thanks!!!!!!

I've personally only heard of one bride using silk flowers. I can see the attraction - they last forever. But personally, I prefer real flowers.

Good luck - whatever you decide.

I think it's a wonderful idea....The only thing you have to remember is that you will work on weekends, if that's fine with you, then I say, why not!

My brother and sister in law had silk flower centerpieces they were beautiful. They were actually multiple small vases in a cluster and they became the favor. Very nice!!!!!!

It sounds great, however, the only con I see is that people usually select silk flowers in order to keep their expenses low, and usually got the DIY route.

If you were to create a business in it - how would your prices be in comparison to 1)florists providing real flowers, and 2) going the DIY route?
