OK, so I made an appointment w. the GYN for today about a month ago. My appointment is today at 3:30 pm. When I called to confirm, I asked what is the doctors name again? she said her name is ___blank___. So I said, ok so I will mee twith Dr. __blank___ THEN the secretary says, 'actually she is not a doctor she is a nurse practitioner - she went to school- she's trained'
Dilemma: W T F ??? I feel I should have been informed of this when I first scheduled. I am not sure how comfortable I feel about this idea. I already took off from work, and if I dont go today, I wont be able to go until September.
Has anyone had an experience with this? I honestly have never heard of that. HELP!
edited: Thanks for sharing your experiences. I feel so much better about going today.

They should have told you when you made the appt. but I wouldn't be worried. My 'dr' at the gyn is a nurse practitioner and I love her she is amazing. They know what they are doing. Actually my regular doc. is a nurse practicioner too and is better than any doctor I have ever been to.

honestly, i prefer to see the NP over the doctor, I just feel like they are more personable and she has better 'bedside manner' then my doctor.

PAs know what they are doing.. dont worry, they just cant give you serious medical advice, only the doc can do that and you would have to see the doc if anything was wrong the PA would tell you to see the doc

Is she going to buy me flowers and chocolates after she's done with me? LOL - Just a joke.
Thanks for sharing, I feel a lot more comfortable now.

Re: PLEASE read need help quick!
I have never seen a NP at the gyn, but I pretty much ONLY see the NP at my regular Dr. My regular Dr. also thinks I'm a headcase, so I think I've been transitioned But it's very common, especially for routine things. I wouldn't worry, but agree you should have been told, unless it was just assumed you would have known by name.
