There's a place on 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues - it's called something like Today Spa (they have a smaller place on 56th between 5th and 6th, but that's not as nice).
The one on 55th is on the north side, closer to 7th than to 6th. Prices are not too bad (definitely cheaper than Bliss or Georgette Klinger) but they do great work. I can try to get you the exact name, I just can't remember it right now.

Spa Butterfly. No too expensive and they do a nice job. Its on 44th btw Lex and 3rd. www.spabutterfly.com

There's a cute little place called Ivy Nails & Spa by my office that's reasonably priced and does great work - it's on 43rd between 8th and 9th.
