Re: please recommend a good book!

I loved everything I have read by Patricia Gaffney. My favorite is called The Saving Graces. From Bn.com:

Meet Emma, Rudy, Lee, and Isabel -- four of the best friends a woman can ever have. For ten years they've been united by understanding, honesty, and acceptance. Now they'll face a crisis of astounding proportions that will put their love and courage to the ultimate test.

Such an amazing book.

I also liked a few books by Jane Hamilton - the book of ruth, a map of the world (movie was made based on this, sigourney weaver was the title character), and disobedience, which is about a family kinda falling apart - 12 yo daughter thinks she is a revolutionary war soldier, mother is having an affair - awesome.

The Patricia Gaffney ones are better for light reads, but Jane Hamilton is really excellent.

i just finished breaking dawn, the fourth book. it's taken a lot of slack in the press and online reviews, but it really wasn't quite that awful. i think the best book in the series though is the first one.

Re: please recommend a good book!

not sure if i've suggested this or not...

but The Ridiculous Race by Glen Hely & Vali Chandrasekaran

It was very, VERY funny, quirky, intelligent, well written and just overall a blast to read. I want to meet both of these guys & hang out with them now, seriously!

Synopsis:

Hely and Chandrasekaran are friends, TV comedy writers, and 20-something Los Angelinos who decide to circle the globe and make a race of it, starting in LA and going in opposite directions. The hook: no planes.

the first 3 actually are highly recommended. people LOVE them. it's almos like harry potter mania all over again. i think there was just so much hype over the 4th and last book of the series, and the story just went a little too cooky, so people reacted negatively to it. if you like the first book though, i definitely think it's worth reading all four books.

Oh i thought you were referring to the whole series! Well my friend bought all four books so I get them when she is done. . .I am just happy I found another series - its easier to follow a series than have to pick out a new book each time!
