Please stop the spread of hoax/urban legend emails

If I had a dime for everyone one I got, I'd be a millionaire.

isn't Bill Gates supposed to give everyone a dollar for fowarding his emails.....LOL

Sorry, I couldn't resist and couldn't agree with you more.

I hate when my friends send me crap email like that but rarely a 'hi, how's it going?' email.

couldnt agree more...whats worse is that the person who started the stupid email in the first place is only creating drama in the first place...i don't want to hear about possible terror attacks in nyc on 6/11, or the 'perfume scam', or oh I could go on for days...enough is enough

I find it hard to not write back to these
e-mails and say ' Are you an IDIOT?' WHO WOULD BELIEVE THIS??? But then I realize some are my friends and stop myself...I hate hate hate when seemingly intelligent people pass that crap on!

The worst are the emails about the children that are dying and won't live unless you forward the email to everyone in your address book within 5 minutes.

LMAO!!!!!!!! That is sooo true....And the ones that are 'fake rememberences' of things with like 40 names on it yet say this e-mail chain has NEVER been broken??? Can I not remember someone or a tragic event if I dont sign my name to a freaking e-mail?

ITA!

I usually find the hoax on About.com's urban legend thing and do a 'reply to all' with the link saying it's a hoax. And I tell them to please check this stuff out before forwarding it to other people. I can't stand it!

Most people have learned to take me off their stupid email forward lists.

Hrm..

This might get me in trouble but..
I no longer get chainmail from any of my friends.

I usually ask 'Please no chainmail, thanks' but you know every now and then folks forget or think I just MUST have this new poem about love and friendship or they just CANT pick up the phone and tell me about this new email virus they have to email me about it (uhm do you see the irony of that).

My source for urban legends and hoax is Snopes.

To stop all chainmail I basically asked them, warn them and then finally I nearly demand it. If none of that works (and sometimes it doenst) then I just reply to those chainmails. To every single person on that email the same number that there are people on the list. So 10 emails to you if youre on a 10 person chainmail I happened to get. The message simply says:
'Isn't this annoying? You can block my email or ask (FRIENDS NAME) to simply stop chainmailing me. The choice is yours. Sorry for the annoying amounts of emails.'

My best friend got really ticked off when her mother, sister and other coworkers got my emails. She did however admit I had asked her several times to stop.

I know it sounds cruel but I had had it with all that crap in my inbox. Oddly enough though, I don't get chainmails anymore. *shrug*

Re: Please stop the spread of hoax/urban legend emails

DH gets all these republican propaganda emails from a friends father, and most of it is urban legend (the pic of Kerry with jane fonda for one).... so DH just looks it up on snopes and sends to all!

MIL and SIL fall for the virus hoaxes and other silly urban legends (like the bonsai cat thing)... i always have to remind them to look iup at snopes before you hit 'send'!!

oh, and my mom insists on sending me every friendship/chain letter that comes along! i keep telling her to stop butshe doesn't listen.
