My dad is really pissing me off. When we first got engaged 6 months ago he said it was TOO EARLY to start planning and booking stuff for the wedding.
I have been asking him for months for a list of guests from his family and his friends he wants to invite. Tonight he got an attitude with me and said 'you have a year'..........
What part of I need to plan this thing does he not understand. I need to know how much of everything im going to need and FH and I have a list of 142 people we want to invite and depending on our parents lists decides who gets cut from out list......
Anyone else think im being a brat and its too early for me to be worried about a guest list?

Absolutely not...explain to him that brides are crazy and people are booking the RH YEARS in advance. My wedding is a year and half away and my hall was booked 3 of 4 days we had in mind. In order to start looking for RH you need to be able to estimate a minimum #. Good luck!

nope...I don't think you're being a brat at all. Dad needs to get with the program. He is right to some extent...you do have a year and yes, vendors will be available...but it may not have been your first pick. It takes time to research and shop for the vendors that suit you and FH best. See if someone else can talk to dad and explain this is just the way it is. Once you leave deposits for everyone...you can sit back and relax a bit. But definately not too early.

yeah we booked our hall like right after we got engaged and he had a fit because it was so far in advance the funny thing is the date we originally wanted 6-7-08 was already booked.

you're not crazy at all!! you need to know how many poeple are going to be invited!! you can't plan anything untill you have those numbers. why don't people understand?! my dad was the same way and FH's grandfather keeps saying we are spending too much money too early b/c the wedding is still 9 months away. UGH!!

I have been planning way before I got engaged, lol. I have a year too and I think its still not enough time., hahahah. Everyone in my fam thinks I am crazy, dont worry, PLAN AWAY!!!!!!!!!

You are not crazy. But i know how you feel. My mom is acting the SAME way. Granted we are not getting married until next November, but I am FH starts working serious full time ( in his field that 50-60hrs a week) and I am taking three grad classes in the fall. Come the fall I will have no time for wedding stuff and once FH starts his seriously working, getting him to appts with me, will be nearly impossible.
So i ask my mom for a list, and he asks his parents for a list, and they give us the attitude like we have forever. I am DIYing the invites and again will have no time come the fall and my cousin is getting married next July. So i figure come January and from then on til her wedding, as a BM, i'm going to get caught up with her wedding, which is why i am trying so hard to get things done now.. but they dont understand... But WE do!!!

no way...i had FH's parents give me their list as soon as we set a date. i needed to know even just to book the hall. you need that info for so many reasons, and a year is not that much time when it comes to a wedding.
sounds like he's being lazy. you should tell him if he doesn't give you the list, then you can't be held responsible for cutting people he wants to invite.

def not...you need to know how many tables just to book your florist...so your dad is being ridiculous...he should respect your wishes on wanting to get this day perfect...and in order to do that...you need to plan now...

You're Absolutely not crazy......I stopped caring about what other's think about my wedding and how early I am getting started. Why should you wait until the last minute!

I don't think you're crazy. I asked for the same but i do think it is hard for some parents to just make out a list so quickly. At least in my case....my parents are sort of waiting to see how it goes...if FH has some extra space, they may want to invite more...my mom is an educator and has a bunch of friends but can't invite them all so she's sort of holding off on her list. I Think its ok that they give an estimated headcount, but hard for them to actually sit down and think about this through. Personally, for me, I thought I needed this right when I got engaged but when I thought about it, I really didn't need it right this minute. I know they are thinking about it though so I'll wait until i really need to know and things come together. I don't think attitude is necessary though and I def don't think you're crazy!

Wedding planning takes a lot of time - and doing things asap is best way to go - then you wont be stressing at the end or stressing less at least, lol
