I live in a small home and my husband and I have a lot of 'stuff'. Everything from tons of books, to CDs to various paper we need to keep, and on and on... Since we dont have large expanses of space, that stuff is often out in the open and looking a mess.
How do you keep your 'stuff' in order?
Any great ideas out there?

My cd's are in a cd rack that holds 300 cd's (btw...they are all numbered and I have a alphebetical list of them!! )
Our papers are all in a all wood filing cabinet and things get filed at least once or twice a week.
I have all my craft stuff in boxes right now..,unil our room is done.
all my brownie troop stuff is in one of those 3 drawer Iris carts. I love that because its got wheels on it and I can take it to the dining room when I need top spread out!!

Re: Pls post your storage solutions!
Im with you Michelle except its the Basement and the Garage. When we moved in to the house in Jan I said we will will never need this much storage space. Well the storage closet is full, the storage Room is 1/2 full and I still have unpacked boxes in the guest room.
LisaRose I knew you would be super organized!

My storage solution is: I unclutter one area and then just relocate the stuff somewhere else. Eventually I try and throw some stuff out.

I had our contracter build us 'California Closets', you know, closets with tons of shelves, drawers, different height poles, etc. It really gives you SOOOO much more storage space!

Re: Pls post your storage solutions!
Thats the thing - things like CD cases and file cabinets, etc.. are just not an option for me. One, I hate the look of them but more importantly, I just dont have the wall space for them. If I started to add those items, my house would be even more cluttered.
I saw a great idea in Real Simple this month (will scan to show you guys) about storing your CDs in binders and chucking the cases.
Im sort of looking for ideas like that. Storing solutions that take up less space, not more.

Re: Pls post your storage solutions!
from the bombay company. holes 288 cds & its gorgeous!
we have the billy bookshelves from idea that are under $100 each & they are in the basement. but we need at least three more for all of my teaching books & supplies.
we really need some kind of storage unit/shelving in our basement for storage. i looked online at target & ikea. i need something soon.
recently I just got rid of all the jewel cases for my CDs...I bought those big books and I put the booklet and the CD in...and I threw out the case...it took a lot of emotional preparation to go through that...but I am happy in the end...I have so many CDS that I would never listen to any, b/c they were all in boxes or in unobtainable stacks...
I have many file cabinets too...being a teacher its a must...but I have a 2 drawer wooden one for all of our financial info and it works fine...

I really need something to store DVD's. I think I have about 50 and we usually buy every month. Now I don't even have space to put them anymore. Hubby is a big movie guy. Any suggestions?

Re: Pls post your storage solutions!
In our apartment we have very tall closets. The uppermost closet space was not being used. We put shelving on the upper reaches of the closets and used plastic storage containers to store differnt things - some have winter stuff, others have photos and letters and yearbooks. We recently added some DVDs there too.
It's not easy to get to - we have to use a step ladder - but it was the best solution we could come up with.
The other clutter buster is to throw away as much as possible. But I know that is easier said than done.
Edited to add: Hold Everything has some nice-storage containers so that even if it doens't add more space, it at least looks nice in the box.
I'm pretty anal about the alphabetical order thing...so I did that...leaving some space after each letter (but with the napster type sites...I haven't really bought many new cds in awhile)
they are something like this...
it says it holds 240 CDs...but since I was putting in the booklets I had to divide the number in half...I put the booklet in a slot and then behind it I put the CD...

Re: Pls post your storage solutions!
It's called my parents garage and my in-laws attic! Seriously, we have our china and other random house things at my parents, and all our Christmas and other holidays stored at my In-Laws.
We have a CD storage unit that holds up to 300 CD's. We've also sold a bunch of CD's that we never listen to anymore. That's cut out about 50 of them right there.
We also have a CA closet and it's the best! We can actually fit everything into one closet and one chest of drawers.
I also have those big plastic storage boxes from Target that we store stuff in and then have those in the spare closet in the office.

Re: Pls post your storage solutions!
We have all of our cds and computer cds in those cd books so we threw out all the cases. Saves a ton of room.
We lifted our bed alittle off with blocks (that is covered by the dust ruffle) so we can fit those under the bed storage containers there. They hold alot of my shoes and winter bulky items.
We have a trunk/bench at the end of our bed that holds all our extra linens.

Karen - did you use binders with CD sleeves in them or books specifically made for CDs? Where did you get them?
