Plus Size BM - How do you find a dress

My sister is the maid of honor. She is having difficulty trying on dresses because they, at the most are a size 12. she is bigger than that. How can I get an idea of what will look nice on her and compliment her the most.

davids bridal has samples in all sized. you can go there and get an idea, then go searching other places.

Also try Burton's in Melville on 110. I've heard they're very accomodating to plus size brides, going so far as ripping a seam so it would fit.

I'd also take a look at the plus size girls on here and the style dresses they're wearing. In general, A-line would be best. My wedding dress (in my album) wraps to the side and is absolutely flattering! I actually feel skinny in my white wedding dress that I thought I was going to feel liek Shamu in. I LOVE it! So you may want to try that style as well.

I had the same problem. I took her to estelles in farmingdale.. huge selection. she found a dress AND needed no alterations..

Good luck

my girls went to David's Bridal and every girl was able to fit into a dress.

It's not the most fantastic shopping experience, but they will clip you into anything they've got. I'm a 20, and they strapped my fat a$$ into a Maggie Sottero 8.

If you find something at, say, Davids, you'll still want to try on the similarly-designed size 12 samples of the designers you like. For example, some of the side-gathering dresses are very flattering, some just make you look like a lopsided amateur wrestler. Similar design elements are not always executed with the same finesse.

she may not be able to find something exactly to try on--but i would highly recommend Bill Levkoff as a designer (my MOH was plus sized)

also Alfred Angelo is great for plus size BM and David's Bridal
