Plus Size brides....dress question

How do you find your dress when all the samples are so small. I am going dress shopping tomorrow and freaking out because when I picked out the dress for my bridesmaids to wear I held up some dresses to myself that i loved...but way too small to put on. How depressing. Well tomorrow I have to go and the woman at the store said they try their best and they will hold it up to you so you can get the idea......i know im gonna cry. I want to put it on. It ***** because i feel like i have slim pickings because of my size....

anyone have any suggestions or can tell me what they did from their own experience.

Re: Plus Size brides....dress question

they had to use clips and clips on me... I wear a size 12 but my boobs are a 36 DD so I had to order a 20 size dress smaller than bridesmaid dresses I had to get....

But when I tried on this dress I just knew it was it....So i hope you feel the same not matter what the sample size is

Re: Plus Size brides....dress question

You should def try davids bridal b/c they have thousands of dresses and they carry plus sizes up to 24? (i think it is)
Also, those sample sizes barely fit the skinny girls lol and i'm by no means a thin girl..im very flabby
i normally wear an 8 and i was trying on size 12s and 14s and they couldnt even zipper them up..
You can probably put them on, even if you cant zipper them, have the lady hold it up/closed behind you...

I went to davids bridal and they had my size for all the samples....and you don't have to buy off the rack, they ordered my dress for me.
Otherwise, don't let it get you down. If you fall in love with a dress and want to order it...realize that you will look amazing in it when your size comes in. Don't look at other brides just remember this is your wedding dress and your special day.

Re: Plus Size brides....dress question

As a plus size I feel your pain....Most of the stores I went to had dresses to try on. There were few that I had a problem with (only the ones in the city had nada).

Davids Bridal has a LARGE selection of plus size dresses. I was told that some of them even go up to size 32. I know it's not my fave place but it was a great place to start since they are pretty true to size.

If it helps, I got mine at Bridal Elegance.

Good luck tomorrow!!!!!! Let us know how it goes.

Re: Plus Size brides....dress question

One of the places I looked was The Bridal Suite of Huntington and they had really nice plus size dresses. They had quite a few beautiful Alfred Angelo dresses in plus sample sizes. David's Bridal in Lake Grove and Bridal Suite in Bay Shore also had plus size dresses. I ended up seeing my dress in a size 12 on the rack. It was a Maggie Sotero dress with a corset with material that was kind of thick and somehow with a long line bra the woman was able to get it on me. I was able to get an idea of what it would look like on me (even though some of it was open in the back). The dresses with the corsets may make it easier to try on, but there are dresses out there. Sometimes other stores have them in a different sample size as well. If you see something you love that's smaller in one store you can always call around to different stores and ask.

Re: Plus Size brides....dress question

I had to order a size 18 b/c of my bust.
it was hard to get a great idea about a lot of dresses at a lot of shops b/c some places just don't bother helping you see how the dress WILL fit.

Burtons (although I had a bad experience there) was very helpful with the try on process.

Helens was AMAZING and got every dress to fit me as best they could to the point where i think some that were too small might end up looking better than the right size b/c of how much effort they put into making you look/feel great when searching for a gown.

Depending on who helps you at the Wedding Center you get a lot of help too. Plus they seemed to have gowns in a large variety of sizes.

Estelle's again depending on who helps you can be great. some ladies go above and beyond while others don't even acknowledge your existance. they also have samples in a larger selection of sizes.

There were days that were down right painful, I'm not gonna lie. There were stores where NOTHING fit and I felt awful about myself. There were other days that even though nothing fit, I could still try on things and get the idea of how things would look and i looked HOT and kept that high all week. Whatever you do, don't get down on yourself b/c you don't fit in the samples, they really need to realize that a wedding gown size 6 is not the 'average' woman's size.

I went and bumped the thread from when I did modeling as the Plus size bride for LiweddingsTV.

The pics are from Bridal Elegance. They had quiet a few larger size dresses. I also had alot of luck and I am buying my dress from HELEN's Bridal in Commack. I love their service and how patient they are

This is the link for the site page. where it says search type is Plus Size

I completely understand you as a plus size bride myself. I'm going to try on at Lilette's in Baldwin, and then go from there.

RK Bridal in the city has a selectionof plus size dresses, the sample ones in the store are around a size 20,

They let you try on anything you want, so if you go there, you can try on some different styles and get an idea of what you like/don't like, even if you don't end up buying there.

Re: Plus Size brides....dress question

I am also a plus size bride, and I went to a few stores. A couple of the stores I went to, I got little to no help. The store I got my dress from made me feel really comfortable, and really clipped every dress to make it fit as much as possible. I got my dress already in my size, and it fits perfect, and I still love it!! If you don't get helped by the store, leave, and keep trying! It should be a fun experience, and if the staff isn't making you feel comfortable then move onto the next. Good luck!!

me too!! Girl you have nothing to worry about! Also, most dresses with corsets will fit well enough to get an idea. I am a 12/14 and I was putting on size 8 (in gown sizes) well enough to see how they would look. I deff recommend Lillettes though, they have a HUGE selection for all sizes!!

i was clipped in and I also tried on a corset dress too and fell in love with them because they squeeze you in.

Re: Plus Size brides....dress question

I went to stores that had the larger size dresses to try on- I had two BM that are plus size and one that is thinner and I just went and called stores to make sure they had samples to try on for the girls.

For my gown (I wear a street size 24) I made sure the stores that I tried on gowns with had at least size 18-20 samples for me to try on.

I do have to also recommend Lillette's- they have the best selection in all sizes to try on.

I tried on a few at Lilettes and I was able to get a very good idea of what i liked and didn't like. I'm normally a 16 and I was able to try on dresses there.

Good luck.
