I started calling around (actually so far I've called one place lol) to price the BM dress I like for my girls and was told theres a $40 plus size charge for size 22 and up... is it just me or is that insane!!!!!!
or am I overreacting and this is normal? Not to sound like a dummy but I really don't know.
Im definitely going to keep calling around but figured I would see if this is normal or not.
Please help! thanks!

Re: Plus size charge??
I was maid of honor in a wedding last year and there was also an additional fee (about that price, don't remember exactly as thankfully i didn't have to use it) for I believe above a size 16.

Re: Plus size charge??
I think it is pretty normal because there is extra fabric, which can be costly. Think about it...the yardage involved in a size 22 BM dress is much greater than an 8. Luxury fabrics are expensive, even for designers.
I don't know if it is standard in bridal, but I have paid more for size Tall pants and dresses because of the extra fabric.
I wouldn't get too worried about it, but it may be a nice gesture to just pay the up-charge privately for your plus-size BMS (and ask the consultant not to mention it) so it doesn't come up in a group setting to single them out.
Hope it works out for you!!

Re: Plus size charge??
I don't think its right, but they usually charge more for size 18 and up (some are even 16). But since BM dresses are two sizes smaller than regular, this means that a street size 14 is 'plus size' and has to pay more. Its not the stores, its the designers and I hate it.

I never really thought about it... $40 seem like a lot of money though! but I think I will def pay this and try to keep it quiet.

Re: Plus size charge??
From what I remember is that anything over a size 20 will incur a plus size fee. Also any bridesmaid over 5'9' and that includes heel height for shoes will have to order extra length in order for the dress to be the right length. Basically any order that requires more fabric from the normal cutting will have an extra fee.

Re: Plus size charge??
Some designers dont. Alfred Angelo doesnt I don't think is right my sister wears a street size 4/5 and needed a 10 because of her chest and another girl wear a 12 and they sized her for a 20 because she's an F.

Re: Plus size charge??
i actually think thats pretty reasonable of them ive heard of places charging more if its 14 or a 16 and up. for all the times that ive been a bridesmaid ive needed an 18 or 20 (im normally a 14 i have no idea why bridal as to run so small and make us feel bigger than we are ) and i've had to pay a fee at some places. the only place that didnt charge a fee was davids bridal.

Yes, there was a $40 charge for plus sizes for my BM's dresses (size 20 or more) - 2 of the girls had to get plus size because they run so small

Re: Plus size charge??
For BM dresses, Bridal Reflections starts charging for plus size at size 14. They ALSO charged me because I'm 'tall'. I'm barely 5'6'. I refused to pay for ther size 14 bullcrap so I need to make sure I don't gain weight. I'd avoid them, they're such a-holes.

Re: Plus size charge??
I think bridal reflections was like $50 or something for my sister! Once you hit size 18, you usually get charged - which stinks because a size 18 can really be like a size 14/16 - everything is always so much smaller!

It really is! I want to write an angry letter to these designers! how friggin rude honestly!!! and I dont want anyone to know about the charge because I think its super rude so I'm going to pay it and just have it kept quiet like it doesn't even exist

Yup there is an additional fee after you go above a certain size (I think it varies by designer). It makes sense because it's fabric that is needed but I still think it stinks.

Re: Plus size charge??
go to david's bridal!!! They have all sizes and i dont think it will be that much of a difference in price.
