Plus Size Help

Ugh...I'm Actually upset w/ myself b/c I have made no attempts to loose weight yet. I need start gown shopping, and I'm afraid I'm not even going to be able to try any on. I'm size 16-18 dress. I know Jim Hjlem does a nice Diva line. Are there any other plus size brides out there who were able to try on gowns? What is the average size the samples come in? What do they do for more 'voluptuous' girls who can't try on size 10s? Any advice would help...

TIA.

Re: Plus Size Help

some of the dress shops i went to had samples that had many zippers in the back to choose from. this zipper panel was great for trying on because it meant that one dress sample was actually available in every size. and, for those dresses that were too small, the sales people pinned them to help give me an idea. hope that helps! good luck!

I HIGHLY recommend the Jasmine line. Their samples are a size 10, but they have panels built in up to a size 22!!! I am getting a Jasmine Haute Couture dress, and in the dress, I will probably have to get a 16 or 18 (have not ordered it yet). Here is a pic of the back, so you can see what I mean about the panels. Aw heck, here is one of the front too!!

i just went through this...and dont worry b/c any of the dresses, in any of the places can be gotten for you in your size. and they will clip the dress to your bra to give you the idea.....and like someone else mentioned, sometimes they have zippers.....but you will know the dress regardless of the clip on the back!

Re: Plus Size Help

Everyone goes through this dilema - plus size, normal, petite, etc....imagine a size 0 girl in a size 10 dress - it stinks! I'm a plus size bride and having my dress custom made. I squeezed my arse into a Monique Lhuiller coutre dress and it was really simple. They nip/tuck/pin, etc so that you can get a feel and look.

As far as losing weight for the wedding - I'm not doing it! The FI loves me the way I am, I LOVE ME the way I am and there's no pressure to lose weight. You have to do it for the right reasons and for yourself! I was actually joking around w/a few of my BM's and told them I was looking forward to GAINING weight for the wedding! Obviously I'm not doing so, but don't feel that you have to!

If you need to talk - FM me! I'm always around! In the end, you're going to be gorgeous and the center of attention!!!!! No one will think once about your weight!

I went to the wedding center in commack and they had a bunch of plus size dresses to try on. Also the Bridal Suite of Huntington had a couple of plus size dresses.

What a great attitude Christine! I wish I was as confident as you.

I just wanted to say that you should try not to pay attention to the sizes that you try on. All of the sizes usually seem so out of whack it freaks me out. As long as you feel comfortable you will look great!

I'm also a plus size bride, and luckily the sample was a 10 and soo streched out that it fit, but of course couldn't zip!

Re: Plus Size Help

Some have posted about squeezing in/clipping/etc into the size 10 samples....That was not easy for me. I would say, 'How can I get the idea of how this is REALLY going to look on me?!?!?!'

I did try on dresses w/o the panels built in(like my dress's sample has--see pics in above post), and it was SO hard to get an idea of how it would really look.

Re: Plus Size Help

Hi Im a plus size bride and I know how you feel. I was 2 weddings and it was hard; due to the fact I couldnt try on the dresses until they came in...I was mad. but now that its my wedding I went to Lildas in copiague and they are wonderful; wonderful people.
I tryed and alot of dresses; they had built in panels in the back so they fit the dress to you. no matter what size you are. My dress is strapless and thats something that I would never try on or even think about. I cryed hahah...the girl was like you look beautiful and the dress was an 18 and fit....i was very very happy...
Besides all that; losing weight is very hard and i have been up-down all my life. I have been trying to be positive and I been going to a gym for a year now & weigt watchers and i lost 40 lbs...happy....My FH loves me just the way Iam and dont want to change; the hard part is being happy with yourself and accpeting who you are as a person!!! well sorry so long; i wish you good luck..
P'S try Lildas!!!

They definitely do. I tried on a bunch of 12s....none of the corsets came close to closing. I tried on a size 18 to see what it would look like fully laced up. You should be able to find something that will fit, so you can get an idea of what it will look like.
