Does anyone know of any bridal salons that carry a lot of plus size wedding dress samples so I can actually try them on? I usually wear between a 12 or 14 but we all know in wedding dress world the sizes are actually 2 or 3x larger! I want to be able to actually try on a dress, not sit in the dressing room doing a shimmy dance to actually get the thing past my hips! Then it looks all awkward if it even GOES ON! I found an allure dress I was in LOVE with and couldn't even get it on to get an idea of how it would look bc it was a size 10! Thanks girls!

Re: Plus size wedding dresses
I am a size sixteen and was very nervous about trying on wedding dresses. I went to Helen's bridal in commack and was able to get into every dress I wanted. Many samples were size 16 or above. Good luck!

Bridal Suite of Centereach has a whole room :) Macys in Smithhaven had probably around a dozen. Like the previous post, Helen's had a few.. they were amazing at squeezing you into things! Paradise in Patchogue had some but I found them to be 'matronly'.. but this was also 6 months ago :) Fantasia in Rocky Point (which is where I ultimately got my dress..) had some as well!
Good luck!

If you're unsure of what kind of dress you want or you have a few styles in mind, you can go to david's bridal. They have every size up to like a 30! Even if you don't fall in love with one of their dresses they have pretty much every style and maybe you can narrow it down a bit when you go to one of these other places so you can have them pull the styles you like so you're not trying to squeeze into everything. That was my plan and I actually fell in love with one of the dresses at david's, but I would have narrowed it from my search there and then called a couple places to see if they had that style in let's say a 16 in stock. Just a thought :)

Without a doubt, go to Bridal Suite of Bay Shore! I am a size 16/18 in regular clothes and they have a whole section of plus size gowns -- I was able to get into every single one and some were even too big! They definitely carry a lot of Allure and Casablanca!

Thanks ladies! I wanted this to be a good process and I just felt totally uncomfy trying to stuff myself into a dress!! I'm gonna have to check out these places! What style did you find fit your body best? I loved drop waist and surprisingly looked good in a trumpet style which I would have never thought would of looked good!

I went to Helen's Bridal in Commack just last week. I wear a street size 12, and they realized quickyl I'm about a size 16 in bridal dresses..
Every single dress I tried on was at least roughly in my size, between a 12 - 20 (the 20 was huge, most were a 16/18).

If you feel like going into the city, I had a wonderful experience at RK bridal. They have a ton of dresses and lots of sizes. I'm 12/14 also and I tried on a ton!
I was surprised, I looked good in a lot the fit and flare dresses, but I ultimately went with a A line.

Re: Plus size wedding dresses
I've found so far I have looked best in drop waist dresses with a skirt that's not too puffy (I'm only 5'3') so I can't have a huge skirt that overwhelms me.
I've wanted to try a fit and flare.

Ok ladies I have to post my experience because I don't want anyone to go through what I dealt with today. I decided to go to Bridal Suite of Centereach today since I heard they have a large selection of plus size gowns. DO NOT GO THERE!!!!!! Plus sized brides BEWARE. I asked to use the restroom prior to my appt and my moh was waiting outside the restroom which happens to be very close to the workers breakroom. The receptionist walked into the back, unaware that my moh had followed and was standing by the door waiting for me and said to the saleswomen 'Your 12 oclock is here. And she's fat.' OMG!! I wear a size 14 street clothes and last I checked the avg size women wore a size 12. My moh was floored. I came out of the bathroom to the saleswomen apologizing to my moh and my moh just looked PISSED which is so not like her. It took them a few minutes to finally tell me what had happened and I asked to see the women who had made the comment. She REFUSED to come out from the breakroom. At that point I told them I was sorry but had to leave because I was obviously not comfortable trying on dresses there. What a horrible thing to say, and what a negative way to start an appt. She told us she had a plus size bride earlier in the day who didn't like ANYTHING she had shown her. Um so? Not my problem and I'm not the same bride. There was no excuse for their behavior and short of making me cry (once back in the car of course) what had they accomplished? Venting because they obviously dislike their jobs? Not someone or someplace I want selling me my dress for my special day. On a brighter note, I went to Helens right after and had an amazing experience! Liz was awesome and all the ladies were SO supportive and phenomenal. I'm going back with my mom in a few weeks to show her the dress I fell in love with.

Oh my goodness - I'm so sorry that happened to you! Shame on them! I'm glad you walked out right away and found a dress you love elsewhere. Good luck with this new dress!

I'm SO sorry that happened to you. There is absolutely NO excuse for behavior like that. And to then refuse to even face you and apologize?? Disgusting! Good for you for leaving!
I have to say, I have been to the same two stores you mentioned, and while not having had such a *horrible* experience, I was certainly underwhelmed at that store. Although they didn't put a ton of pressure on me to buy immediately, I felt rushed the whole time I was there. They kept mentioning that they had another appointment and pushing me to at least make a yes or maybe decision very quickly.
Helen's, on the other hand, was WONDERFUL. They applied NO pressure at all and made me feel I would have been welcome to spend the entire day there. I think my first choice dress from Helen's is still my overall favorite, but even if it hadn't been, I think I would have called Helen's to see if they could get my top pick. THOSE are the kind of people I want to give my business to! So glad you had a good experience there as well!!

Thanks guys! I was upset but now I'm just like eh, whatever. Helens was amazing and everyone was so super nice, I loved them. My mom found a dress for herself elsewhere and I'm gonna get it from Helen's as well. It's just something that unfortunately I'll never forget but maybe my post will stop another bride from going there and feeling like I did!

Thanks for the update! Unbelievable. I made an appointment earlier today to go there and honestly after what you experienced...I'm going to cancel. That's just rude and unprofessional! I'm so sorry

Omg that is just HORRIBLE!!! Being plus sized myself and worrying about dress shopping because of this it makes me so upset/sad/pissed that you or any plus sized woman would have to experience that. What a punk of the worker to have the balls to say that but then not come out to face u afterwards! I am glad to hear u had a great experience on you next appt. Good luck when u go back!

Melly I'm glad you didn't go! Who wants such negative people to help them find their wedding dress? My friend wears a size 20 and went to Kleinfields yesterday, she said she tried on SO many dresses! Jassy, have you tried on dresses yet? I've had to go to 2 different stores just to try on 3 dresses I really liked bc no one has them in my sample size! LoL

Not yet. I plan to start in the fall. Probably around November. I'm so afraid I'm not going to find dresses to actually try on but I def plan to check David's Bridal, RK Bridal and Kleinfields. I am glad to hear your friend had a great experience there. Another 2013 bride didn't have such a great experience there so I was nervous but still want to go anyway because its Kleinfelds! lol

I am so sorry that happened to you! You should file a formal complaint, that is just horrible. i am assuming that is you in your pic, and you are beautiful!!
I got my dress at Paradise Bridal. Ask for Fanny, she is the BEST! She made me feel so comfortable and I had such a hard time finding a dress, and she put me at ease, and I'm so in love with my gown.
i also went to Helens and had a really good experience but didn't love anything. I also went to Fantasia and almost bought a dress there but it wound up being discontinued and I took it as a sign it was not the dress for me. They were wonderful there though. (I am a street size 20 and tried on about 10 dresses at each place)
Good Luck! <3

That is despicable. I would file a complaint, that is completely rude. I went to Helens too and loved the service there, they were so nice and accommodating.
