We are thinking of a New Year's getaway with some friends to the Poconos. We would either want to rent a house, or stay in a hotel close to the ski areas. Any suggestions? We don't want a motel or anything like that.
TIA!

Re: Poconos Vacation Help
I'm not sure about the Poconos, but every year during college we'd rent a condo at the base of Mt Snow. It was great, we'd just snowboard into the back of the condo every night, and the condos were beautiful.

I don't know if all your friends could fit in that though...I think it's built for two.

East Stroudsburg (sp) is really beautiful and cool. It's a neat little artist colony town. There are a bunch of cool little shops, bars, clubs, and restaurants. I really loved it there when we went.

Thanks for the suggestions! We are not looking for a romantic place because we are going with a group of friends. I guess we are mostly looking for a house to rent so we can all be together.
Thanks again!

Re: Poconos Vacation Help
There is a resort where you can basically rent out a town house that is near the Tannersville Outlet Center - some friends of mine did it about 6 years ago. I think it was at Shawnee. Shawnee Rentals Also, if you go to the 800 Poconos site you can search for condo rentals: 800 Pocono Search

A bunch of my friends and I are doing the same thing. We went through Poconos Resort Realty. http://www.prr1.com/index.html They have a whole bunch of houses with hot tubs etc. Might be worth checking out. Hope this helps!

Re: Poconos Vacation Help
We did that last year and found our house rental on cyberrentals.com. Another good site is vrbo.com. I think we wound up spending $200 a couple for the house and we all chipped in another $100 for food and alcohol. And we splurged on that stuff (filet mignon, lobster tails, case of champagne, etc...) so you could probably do it for even cheaper.

Re: Poconos Vacation Help
We rent every year from VRBO.com. It's a website that lists vacation homes for rent by owner. We always find a great house and the owners are always really nice. We've gone to Camelback, Jack Frost/Big Boulder and Seven Springs.
Good luck!
