Poem for deceased people

Poem for deceased people

I found my friends program from her wedding. She included this poem for her dad. I cry each time I read it. I wanted to share with all you ladies if you want to include it in your programs.

If tears could build a stairway

If tears could build a stairway
and memories were a lane
we would walk right up to heaven
and bring you back again.

no farewell words were spoken
no time to say goodbye
you were gone before we knew it
and only God knows why

our hearts still ache in sadness
and secret tears still flow
what it meant to lose you
no one can ever know

but now we know you want us
to mourn for you no more
to remember all the happy times
life still has much in store.

since you'll never be forgotten
we pledge to you today
a hallowed place within our hearts
is where you'll always stay

OMG that is really beautiful!

FH & I have been struggling with how to honor those who have passed, especially since the main reason why is because one of our dear friends died right before we started dating. A lot of our friends are still not entirely over it, so we really don't knwo quite how to handle it.

That is such a beautiful poem.

Thank you soooo much for sharing this. i lost my brother in February and could not find a way to say I love, I remebmer you and miss you. It has been such a bitter sweet time (we only got engaged in late dec 02). But i think this poem will help me and my partents through the day. I brought tears to my eyes too...thank you again for sharing.

I love the poem. It made me cry! I am also looking for ideas to honor my mother. Do you think it's inappropriate to have someone read a poem like this at the ceremony?????

Re: Poem for deceased people

I don't know about reading it. It just might bring everyone to tears on one of the happiest days of your life. I will now print this poem in my program but I am also including a single lavenader rose (my brothers favorite color was purple, he was a bit of a free-sprit) in the centerpiece (my centerpieces are all white) at my parent table. Does this sound weird??
