Re: Poker players - please help me out
My DH ordered some a while back...I'll ask him the site. He said the most important thing is to buy clay chips, not the plastic ones, since the plastic are way too light (and his dream is to be a pro poker player... ). His cost about $100, so if any of the Overstock ones are clay and under that, it would be worth it. Plus the overstock shipping is great--I think his case with chips is over 10 lbs. so it was heavy to send.

i got one (not from overstock) for my best man....make sure to see if its refurbished...i coudlnt find where it said new or refurbished. the cheaper price tend to mean refunbished and the case will have a nick or a stratch. nice heavy case, real chips (clay) will give people that real feel to it. i paid about 100 bucks with engraving

These seem to all be resin chips, but they're weighted. You seem to get a lot. I've never ordered from overstock.com before, so I don't know what their deal is. but a lot of these are 75% off and you seem to get a lot ofor the price..but I know NOTHING about it

Are any of these good/worth the money. I know nothing about this. What would you buy?
I want to buy it as a birthday gift for Fh. He loves texas hold 'em.
Also let me know if you have a better suggestion of where to buy. I just happenned to come across these.
I was thinking of doing that for FH for Christmas last year. But then I thought of a Tivo and went with that. Good thing I did, I love my Tivo. But I still may do the poker chip set for his birthday. Its so nice to play with real chips. It just makes it more exciting (IMO). I don't know anything about quality though, but I would assume that a nice set runs about $100 at least.

Re: Poker players - please help me out
I used to work for a sporting goods wholesaler and am a VERY avid poker player. Texas Hold 'em 2-3 times a week with friends!
I think the prices on Overstock.com are average
You definately want clay chips! One of my friends had a perfect set! It is in a mahogany case and the chips have denominations on them!
We use those chips everytime. All of our other friends just have the different colored ones.
If you can find a set with denominations, I be that would be the ones they use the most.
Definately get them in a metal case or mahogany case. NO lazy susan or wrack! It's a pain in the arse!
Good Luck Let me know what you get. I will keep a lookout for the real nice ones.
How much did you want to spend?

THAT ISNT BAD AT ALL. THOSE SETS ARE VERY NICE. FH LOVES TO PLAY HOLDEM' AND HE ORDERED A SET JUST LIKE THAT.
They are quite expensive, but this is what I suggets, if this is what he is REALLY into! He will love them.
He's got $5, $25, $100, $500. I think he customized his own set. Also I would look around for the best prices before you buy!

Re: Poker players - please help me out
I can't afford those $500 clay sets. I want to spend under $150 if possible. FH isn't a serious serious player. he just really likes to play and I'd like to get him a set so we can invite people over and play at home. I just think it makes a nice gift. I know nothing about it. ANY tips would help. Do you think weighted resin would be ok rather than clay?
Set 3 is the one that I see that MOST people have. I would also check EBAY!
Oh I also forgot to tell you. It's nice to have the Dealer Button, Big Blind, & Little Blind chips. My friend got those on e-bay cheap!
