Political Question for you guys

Political Question for you guys

Not to get into a debate. But I can not believe how many times I have heard this statement over the last few days: ' If Bush feels so strongly about this war, why are his children not at war?' W T F...is the draft back? ISn't the military something you sign up for? I just find this to be a retarded statement. Agree and disagree below!

Well I don't see how what he does should affect what his children do??

Is it a rule that you have to agree with your parents?

Darn fine point there!

I know this is a little off the topic, but it's really been annoying me the past few days.

From what I've seen in the media coverage, a lot of people are making comments on the war (both for and against) who don't seem to have educated themselves on the situation. How can you make a decision either way if you don't try to learn how the Iraqis feel about their government, as well as why the 45+ nations in the coalition felt this action was necessary?

Re: Political Question for you guys

I don't claim to know much about the war at all. In fact, I don't know enough.

My previous comment was general....honestly, I know nothing about our presidents children, but regardless of that... I think they should be able to make up their own minds about the war....

I didn't mean you. You made a really valid point. I meant more the comments like he's just fighting his father's war. I just don't think you can make something as complicated as foreign policy that simple. JMO.

And I think the protesters, with their 'no blood for oil' statements, are way off. I think some of them are opposed to the war for perfectly valid reasons: fear for the safety of civilians, an end to the violence, etc. I think many, many more of them are reacting on a knee-jerk basis (an HUGE majority of them are college students) to inflmmatory rhetoric taught by their liberal college professors.

There has never been any indication that Bush wants Iraq for its oil. We have oil and there are plenty of other Middle Eastern oil nations that will continue to trade with us regrdless of what happens in Iraq. What we DESPERATELY need in the Middle East is a powerful ally. And liberating a once proud nation from an evil despot who has bankrupted an oil empire and committed genocide repeatedly, is one way to do it.

Edited to say: W T F do Barbara and Jenna Bush have to do with the price of tea in China? Nothing. It's an irrelevant argument.

Re: Political Question for you guys

Ummm, doesn't the Pres. have girls??? Aren't women NOT allowed into combat??? So really what does that have to do with anything???

People seem to be very passionate about this situation, whether for or against the war, so I don't want to say too much on the matter.

Truth is, NO ONE likes or wants war. I trust that if Pres. Bush feels it is necessary, then he and his administration (along with 45+ nations) must know something we don't all know.

Think about it. Why on earth would he risk his political future by waging war?? I'm sure he knows this war will seriously change his changes for re-election. So I honestly think that he must have knowledge and proof of something bad enough to do this, and that he's doing it for the preservation of our safety and the safety of generations to come. Otherwise, he really could have just sat back and turned a blind eye to all of this, in the hopes of maintaining a high rating with the people of this country, and therefore ensure his future in the White House. JMHO.

And while we're on the subject, I wanted to say something about the anti-war demonstrators. They really need to take a look in the mirror, or look up the word hippocrit in the dictionary. Here's why...

We saw scores of them getting dragged off and arrested. Our police were made to look like aggressive, fascist thugs. But what you DIDN'T see was how many police were hurt by the demonstrators. One cop was even kicked in the head and sent to the hospital!

Did you know that a group of demonstrators actually knocked a mounted officer off his horse, and then knocked the HORSE over and kicked the HORSE in the head! Do you know how HARD it is to knock over a horse??!! And why kick a horse in the head? What did the horse do to you!? Bet nobody saw that on TV or read it in the papers.

I know it happened because my FH is an NYPD sergeant and he was there. He was shouted at, called names, and generally treated like a piece of crap by these 'peace loving' people. He spent his day off standing out there all day so the peace marchers could exercise their rights, and the thanks he got was nasty comments and dirty looks. Yet when one of them needs help, who do they call? A cop. Get real.

If you want Peace, for heaven's sake, start with yourself first!

I agree Karen, 100%. They shove, spit at, curse at, kick and hit police officers and they say they are for peace.

Also, at Mass today, Father said the same thing you did: peace comes from within and starts with you....

This might be my favorite quote from LIW of all time:

'I think many, many more of them are reacting on a knee-jerk basis (an HUGE majority of them are college students) to inflmmatory rhetoric taught by their liberal college professors.'

I think it's a total disgrace about the police officers who were injured by protestors, I heard it was 17 officers, that's alot!

On the other hand, out of 250,000 protestors only 100 were violent, so I'd say that the majority of them were peaceful demonstrators.

IMO, I don't think anyone can say that they are for peace but support a war at the same time. To me someone who supports the war but says they are for peace is the same as the protestors who were violent against the officers. It's either one or the other.

What I don't understand is how the protestors who want peace, can kick and try to beat up cops while doing their 'peaceful' demonstration. Even if it just a select few, they need to learn to practice what they preach. It just takes away from their objective.

IMO, some of these portesters just porotest anything that Bush would say, becasue they don't like him. I did not vote for Bush, and I was a little scared when he was elected President, but i think he is doing what needs to be done, and is doing a good job at it.

What I don't understand about these protestors is that if we don't do anything will more people die via terrorist attacks around the war? That is a risk that I am not comfortable with. The unrest and the attacks in that area need to be stopped.

Another thing I heard on the news was that we don't rely on Iraq for our oil anyway, and that if they burned up their oil fields it would not affect us that much anyway.

Re: Political Question for you guys

I think it's ridiculous that our cops have to deal with this $hit instead of concentrating on prptecting us from attacks. They have to deal with protestors who turn violent, even if it is a small number becoming violent. Cops were mazed the other day!!! Are you fu**ng kidding me?? Taking out your aggresion on people trying to protect you and knocking over horses is by no means peaceful! IMO weather this war is over oil or not, I feel it will prevent us from further terrorist attacks in the future by getting rid of their harmful weapons(chemical and otherwise.)
I also feel that you can wish for peace and you can say you'd rather not be at war, but suport the war anyway at the same time. Sure we'd like to live in a peaceful world, but right now that is not a reality and so I support my country, it's soldiers, and our President. I feel it's more effective than attacking members of the NYPD!!!! People protesting is not going to put an end to the freaking war! Get over it and get off your freaking soap boxes is what I'd like to yell at them, and leave my DH out of it!!! Not only do I have to worry about him being in the middle of a terrorist attack, but now I have to worry about fanatical protestors attacking him as well? Pure BS!!!!!

Karen and Sha11209... YOu to could no have said it any better for me.... The other day I was watching the news and they interviewed some of the protesters and it blew my mind not on was against the war for any reason why we are at war.... they are for reason totally unheard of, if that was me on TV and I saw what I said I would hide my face..
