POLL: A Centerpice Question (Sorry there seem to be a lot)
Okay, I am getting married at Jericho Terrace, in the Dome Room. MANY people are recommending tall centerpieces, and I am agreeing. But hey are SO expensive!
The cheapest quote I have received (as of today) was $76.50 EACH for the clear lucite plastic bases (includes flowers), but still at 18 tables that's $1377 for JUST centerpieces!?!?!
So, here is where I stand. Do I say to heck with it and get the darn tall centerpieces (even if it means it's OVER budget--P.S. I'll be over budget on the DJ and Photo/Video too) OR do I settle (this would be the ONLY thing to date that I am settling on) and get low centerpieces.
FH does not want to spend a lot of flowers b/c they are (as he says) 'a waste of $'
Any feedback, opinions, thoughts? Anyone know where I can get inexpensive tall centerpieces?
I received a quote from Trina for $70 per centerpiece PLUS cost of the base.
The $76.50 above is from Flowerama, it's $85 per peice, but I would get 10% off if I book one of their packages. Not sure if I will do that or not.
HELP?!?! Thanks! -Jill

How about a mix of high and low centerpieces?

Hm, had not thought of that. How would I do that, I mean how would I pick which table had low and which had tall? Katrina, you're familiar with the Dome Room, would you say, low on the table around the dance floor (more visibility) and tall ones on the outer?

My advice to you is do what YOU want. The question is what do you want. If you wanted low to begin with then 4get what 'many' have said. If YOU want tall go for the tall. And if that is what you decide then keep looking till you find your best price. Good Luck to you.

I'd alternate them between the tables. I think putting all the tall one near the dance floor and low ones in the back would look odd.
Then again, as I picture it, the taller pieces near the dance floor would give you a sort of dome effect with the low ones at the sides and back of the room. Dome effect for the dome room? It would work.

Thank you! I was not very fond of the tall ones at first, but they ahve grown on me. Plus I STILL have not found quite the one I really say 'Oo, that's it!'
I think I will take your advice and do what I want. I want to meet with 2 more florists, see their pricing for the tall ones. If it still 'breaks the bank' then it's back to the drawing board.
Though, alternating hi and low is a possibility too.
Thanks!

Re: POLL: A Centerpice Question (Sorry there seem to be a lot)
i have to agree with alternating hi/low to save costs. (it's what i'm doing)
luckily, fi and i are minimalists and our CP's are like $40-50 each.
i hate to say it, but i'm with your fi. people will be up and away from the table (hopefully) dancing. also, i've checked out JT. the walls and decor are beautiful enough... if you really can't afford the high ones, don't push yourself over the budget more...
just my two cents.

Jill, my reception is in the dome room as well...and honestly, I'm not doing tall centerpieces.
For us, we had to pick our battles with the wedding planning, and I didn't want to break the bank with floral centerpieces, and especially tall ones!
Like you, I've heard all the 'you're getting married in that room, and need high centerpieces', but for us it wasn't worth it.
I'm doing silver spiral Christmas trees that I bought in Mikasa for $20 surrounded by blue and white christmas ornaments. They're probably no more than 2ft high.
best of luck on whatever you choose!

I'm a fan of alternating high and low. If my budget permits that's what I'll be doing. However I don't think you should be pressured into having high at all. The room will look just as good with either. I was at a wedding there a few years ago and they had low pieces. The wedding was beautiful and the high pieces we not missed. Good Luck!!!

You may be able to cut costs and still have the effect of tall centerpieces by having large callas in a smaller vase. It's a very elegant look and would only require a few stems. Julz had something like that for her wedding. Why don't you FM her for price. I know she used LABlossom.

Are you settled on a florist maybe you could shop around for a better package so you can get what you want. IMO flowers are far from a waste of money. I think it really sets the mood in the room. Im not one working with a budget though because I know I could never stick to it. I know the dome room and I've seen both but I like Katrinas idea too and the pics she has a beautiful. Good Luck in whatever you deceide.

The same goes for us. We are doing pillar candles on a mirror with silk rose petals and 4 votive candles around them. I think I posted a pic of a similar looking one on the JT thread. I am a little worried that they might get lost with the dome but I really can't break the bank on this.

Go with what you want. Persinally, I would not break the bank with flowers. Many married women have told me a great piece of advice... put your money into what lasts. I love hydrangeas but I can afford them because I am only having ten centerpieces and I'm using Trina from Expressions. My total flower budget is $800 but if I could still cut back even further. If I did candles it would cost me $100 but I'm getting married during the day.
Thank about what's important to you. Would you rahter spluge and spend that money on another category? I cut back on some areas and spent more on others... honeymoon, rings, photography.
Good luck.

I have not selected a florist, but after meeting with or getting quotes from a few, I am finding that places such as Pedestals (I am not knicking them, they do great work) are crossed off due their $$$$! I was quoted $2600 from them and then $1770 from Trina for the EXACT same things.
As they say 'The jury is still out' on this one.
Thank you all for you thoughts and ideas. I have an appointment Wednesday with Gina (at Jericho Terrace) Hopefully she will have some pics I can see. I have never seen wedding pics of the Dome Room. If anyone has any, please email them to me [email protected]
Thanks!

I've been to a few weddings where they mixed high and low - here are some pics from two different weddings...
