POLL: Are you all planning on mailing 'announcements'?
I had never really heard of mailing announcements until I was just looking at my planning checklist.
Apparently you are supposed to mail announcements to those people that you didn't invite to the wedding, but you just want to let them know that you were married...no gifts expected.
I don't have time to do this, and I can't really think of a reason to (we are inviting pretty much everyone we care to tell about the wedding)...
Just curious....

i know someone that sent engagement announcements but she sent them soon after their engagement, not in lieu of inviting people to the wedding. IMO, they're tacky because it's repetitive. especially if you are having an engagement party, thats announcement enough. it's just overkill.

I've heard of this only when people eloped or something like that.

I agree. I've heard of it when people get married w/out notifying the general public in advance. If you have a wedding, and have guests attend w/invitations - that's announcement.

we sent them out to our family and friends, when we first got engaged. We were not having an engagement party and our wedding at that point was a year and 8 months away.
Everyone loved them!

We sent out Save the Dates, so that kind of served as our engagement announcements. But we don't plan on anything after the actual wedding.

Re: POLL: Are you all planning on mailing 'announcements'?
I'm going to incorporate it into our Christmas cards the first Christmas following our wedding.
I got the idea this Christmas when I saw several envelopes and cards only addressed to FH or to me! Plus, I had gotten a picture card that for a nice change wasn't of someone's kid or kids - it was my friend and her BF who recently moved in together sitting by their tree with their dogs. You'd think after 3 years of living together we'd be included in all eachother's friends cards, but people clearly aren't so swift. Well, some of these people who didn't include both are not close enough to come to the wedding (obviously), but I want to announce it in some way. So I'll take a pic of us from the wedding and crop/merge it with a pic of our tree (or another picture of a tree in the background) and write text that says 'Our First Christmas as Mr. and Mrs. _______'.
It just urks me that people get our cards year after year and our return address has both our names on the label, yet he even got a card addressing FH, his son and family! I was like the child doesn't live here, nor is his name on our cards, but you don't know my name???

I combinded my E-announcement and E-party invites together. Its so much easier that way. Considering we were forced to announce it.
