poll: budget for ny wedding?

I'm moving to NY from LA next month so having a difficult time setting a budget.

What is a realistic budget for a *very nice* 75 person wedding in the city?

Out of the city?

help much appreciated!

I am having an 80-90 person wedding for $12-15K. We are on a strict budget.

But you can have an amazing wedding by just doubling that amount, $30K. You should have no problem there.

Oh, wait, you want NYC. Oh damn, er, I would say about $50-60K then. The hall will cost the most. Why are you paying for people's flights? Is that standard?

NY city is expensive (more than LI weddings)... with lots of details it will be $$$$$$$
also paying for peoples airline tickets and hotels
most places in the city start at $200 pp
i would think way over $40K

Wow, airline tickets for everyone? That's really nice of you.

I live in LA now also, and we're getting married on LI. LOTS of people coming from CA to go to wedding (over 100, total wedding is 200). We booked a block of rooms at a hotel for guests, but they're paying for the room and the flight.

Are you sure that you want to pay for those things? Just something to think about...

If you don't pay for airline tickets and hotels for everyone, you can do it within your range. I had 130-ish people at my wedding and it was less than 40k (I think ). You can do a lot with that much and only 75 guests, depending on venue.

we are paying for hotels and plane tickets for family, not all the guests. i think thats standard, no? just immediate family (they're all from out of town) not extended.

Not every place in the city is ridiculously expensive. But a lot of things aren't included in the per person price in a city place as opposed to a LI/suburban place. I've checked out many, many places on LI and in Manhattan, so if you have any questions on any specific place, let me know. With the number of guests you want, I actually think there may be more possibilities in the city in terms of restaurants, and smaller venues, as opposed to some of the huge catering halls on LI that have huge minimums, depending on the day that you want it. Hope that helps!

'Very nice' in NYC, 75 people? I would budget not one penny less than $40k. Long Island, you can probably swing that for $25k - $35k.

Hi Honeybee...We need a little more info to help you out.

For example...

1. Are you willing to have your reception in the surrounding boro's? It will be cheaper than the city.

2. Do you want a Saturday evening? That will cost more than a Friday evening, Saturday afternoon or Sunday. There are also 'off' months, where it is a little cheaper. Like January or in my case, November.

3. Some places, like my hall, give options for a less inclusive cocktail hour. 10 options as opposed to 20, that kind of thing

4. Florists, Photographers, Videographhers come in all price ranges. It all depends on what you want.

Hope this helps!
