Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
Hi - I'm meeting with my baker soon and I have to decide what I want. My cake with be 3 tiered, and I first thought about 3 different fillings - the largest being most popular (probably vanilla) middle maybe chocolate, top, who knows, but now I'm not so sure - maybe this will do more harm than good when being passed out to guests? Can everyone post their selections of fillings and icings? I'm in need of some ideas!
Thanks

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
We had chocolate cake with vanilla mousse and fresh strawberry filling, and buttercream icing. I wanted whipped cream, but wasn't sure how it would hold up in the heat of a July evening.

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
Teri- ask the baker what type of fillings they use. My Baker said strawberry filling is the most popular. She also does canoli, Kahlua, lemon, choc. mousse, etc.We are having a 3 tier too but also having a sheet cake in the kitchen to save $$. The total price was $335.
How about you?

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
We're paying a lot, but this baker does amazing work. I'm assuming we can use any filling, but I want to have some decisions made before I meet with her.We had cannoli at the e-party, although I'd love to have it again!

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
I am going to have a devil's food cake with peanut butter choclate filling and Italian Meringue icing- like buttercream but holds up better.I don't understand how you serve your cake if the layers are all different. Do you have a dessert table and not serve the cake at the table? My fear would be everyone wanting a piece of a certain flavor and not having enough.

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
Michele - that's why it may do more harm than good - I like the idea that it's a little different, but we wouldn't be able to offer a selection of guests - that would get way to confusing and chaotic. The only way I could see it work is just randomly place different flavors at each guest's plate. But the likelyhood that they will even like the flavor - who knows. Then again, they wouldn't have a choice if the cake was one flavor either.

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
Teri...my hall advised against having 3 flavors...(and really your guests would only have 2 b/c you don't eat the top part at the wedding...)I had chocolate cake with Strawberry filling Yummy!!

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
My cake comes with the hall, so we could only choose one flavor and one filling. Which was fine by me - less decisions. We chose a marble cake with vanilla pudding and buttercream icing.

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
As far as wedding cake goes, you can't go wrong with a strawberry shortcake sort of cake. I think the more elaborate the flavors - the worse it tastes.

We had white cake with raspberry filling. I have never eaten wedding cake that bowled me over with flavor, but it actually was very good.

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
Dora, I love that you are doing a chocolate icing because I wanted that and everyone told me that your wedding cake has to be white!!!!
We wound up going with chocolate cake and chocolate mousse and whipped cream, which is OK with me, I think by that time, everyone is drinking and sort of full.

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
Lemon is YUMMY!I didn't think I'd like it but at the last wedding I went to the bride had different flavors in each of three layers.
They served it the way Michelle said.
Brought it out for the cake cutting, brought it into the back and then places all the slices on a table for people to go up and choose (which I thought was awesome...I went up twice

Re: Poll - Cake fillings and flavors
Stacy:It's true that white is the tradition -- but I've seen a lot of chocolate covered cakes in a bunch of magazines --> I think it's getting more popular -- like the 'you gotta have a white dress -- but now a lot of brides have ivory or dresses that have other colors in them, etc...Plus we LOVE chocolate!!
Thanks for the support though --> I'll bear it in mind when someone comes up & asks me 'What's wrong with your cake?!?'
