Re: Poll for all John Anthony's Brides...
We were very concerned with the news about John Anthony's...BUT after talking to one of the managers, we were reassured that the hall is in no danger! They were very willing to explain the whole situtation to us, and how it doesn't really affect them....by the end of the conversation we felt confident that all would be ok. P.S we met with one of their DJ vendors, and disussed the issue and they were confident that no one would be affected (and they explained that they do 4-5 weddings a week there, and would DEFINITELY be worried if the hall was in danger!)

Re: Poll for all John Anthony's Brides...
Honestly, they cannot put a guarantee in writing that they will exist on such & such date... anything could happen, a flood, a fire, anything.... I woudl not expect that they would do that for you, just because of the nature....as a matter of fact, there should be a clause on your contract stating that very thing.... it should be on all catering hall contracts.

I figured that they wouldn't but it would be nice. I know about the clause about the fire and stuff but that's really out of their control... for them to be in debt... I think it's their own fault..

Re: Poll for all John Anthony's Brides...
every company is in debt, they have to be, no one makes pure profit..
The restaurants are not filing Chapter 11 nor are they in financial trouble.

Just so you also take into account that the current staff might not be aware of what is planned. Upper management or owners do not send out 'we are closing' memos- it will just happen one day all of a sudden. so just be careful and realize that the hall will say what it needs to NOT to lose business.

Re: Poll for all John Anthony's Brides...
yes, but vendors are not staff, they are independently owned partnerships with their own interests & concerns. If those vendors (especially DJ & Photo, etc) truly though that there was a problem, they would look for other halls to partner with (for bookings).
I agree that it is an unexpected and somewhat frightening thing to happen, but I think we all need to make our own decisions and do what we each feel is best.
If, in fact, the restaurants are OK & there were never intended to be included in the Newsay article in the first place, then these kinds of posts can do damage to their busness.

I'm staying. Worse comes to worse, I am sure I can find another place by December before I send teh invitations...
I felt very confident too. My FMIL's FBIL is a lawyer in Melville and he is very familiar with teh family. This is not teh first time they have done this. They are restructring to get rid of their debt and pay off what is owed more than getting our of debt by filing bancruptcy.

Real Estate, Restaurant Firms File for Bankruptcy Protection in New York Port Dock Holdings Inc.—which owns the stock of Coco's Water Cafe in Huntington, N.Y., the Harbor Club at Tee T's Landing in Huntington and John Anthony's Water Cafe in Babylon, N.Y.—filed for chapter 11 on Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Central Islip, N.Y., according to Newsday.com. The restaurants did not file for bankruptcy and continue to operate, said the company's lawyer, Stuart I. Gordon of the Garden City law firm Shaw Licitra Esernio Schwartz & Pfluger.
Port Dock & Stone Corp., which owns the buildings that house the restaurants and other properties, also filed for chapter 11. The companies filed for protection because of heavy mortgage debts, which they anticipate restructuring through bankruptcy proceedings, Gordon said. Gordon said a 2002 State Supreme Court lawsuit against the company and other family members concerning ownership of the businesses also was a factor in the bankruptcy filings.
Bankruptcy for Albicocco Unit
By Alan J. Wax STAFF WRITER

Less than a year after the death of Samuel Albicocco, the companies that own the real estate and restaurants of the Huntington businessman have filed for bankruptcy protection from their creditors.
Port Dock Holdings Inc., which owns the stock of Coco's Water Cafe in Huntington, the Harbor Club at Tee T's Landing in Huntington and John Anthony's Water Cafe in Babylon, filed for Chapter 11 on Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Central Islip.
Under Chapter 11, a business continues to operate while it develops a plan to repay creditors. 'Our business plan is to sell assets off to satisfy the debt,' Gordon said.
Neither Albicocco's daughter, Mary Rossini, who is listed as president of the companies, nor her husband, A. Rocco Rossini, who is a director, could be reached for comment.
'We had a tough season because of the weather,' Gordon said of the restaurants, which rent their buildings from the real estate company. The restaurants haven't generated enough income to cover the company's mortgage payments. The restaurants do not have written leases 'and pay what they can pay,' he said. 'They haven't been able to pay enough.'
Gordon said a 2002 State Supreme Court lawsuit against the company and other family members by one of Albicocco's sons, Oreste, of Big Fork, Mont., concerning ownership of the businesses also was a factor in the bankruptcy filings.
Albicocco, long one of Long Island's most influential businessmen, died in October at age 76.

even that is not entirely accurate... the real estate companies are not in financial trouble, the mason company is.
