Personally, i hate it (unless there's something specific i'm saving up for) ... it seems like the gift cards i get are to stores i don't shop at, or for amounts that are useless (do you really think i'll be able to spend $20 at William Sonoma???) ... i usually 'save' gift cards for a rainy day, but then it's almost as if i never got a gift to begin with!

I do the same thing. For christmas I got a couple of gift cards and ended up using them at BJs for deodarant, tissues, and other practical things. FH hates that I do that. He tells me to buy a gift for myself but I feel like I' spending my money and don't want to waste it.

My birthday is at the end of November and I usually get gift cards. I end up using them to buy christmas presents for friends and family. Then if I get gift cards for christmas I use them for groceries and essentials:(

These are the only type of GC i do like getting.. going to the supermarket gets so expensive at least they help out a little

i mean i understand sometimes its easy to do that...but i rather not get them...but then again sometimes its good because you can add one if they left out something from the registry

I fee like.. if you're gonna give a gift card... just get cash...
I don't mind them so much at Christmastime if it's like a stocking stuffer or something.. but I don't like getting them like, As THE gift...they're impersonal, you didn't have to really think about me to get me a GC... and I also wind up holding on to them and forgetting about them..
In fact, I think I still have a B&N one in my wallet from Christmas.
I like to give gifts cause I don't always like people to know exactly how much I spent on them. I mean, they can look it up online, but that's on them. This way, I can give nice gifts I got on sale and make it look like I might have spent more than I actually did.
