DH and I are going to go away sometime in the summer or fall. At 1st we were thinking of going to Europe, but then thought of staying in the states. So the choices are San Fran and Napa Valley, Phoenix, Arizona (I've been a while back but DH hasn't), Seattle and Vancouver, or Austin, Texas.
The trip will be for about 5 days.

I LOVE Phoenix and Scottsdale but if you're going to take your trip during the summer, I would not recommend it. It's seriously brutal there then. I was there early-mid August about 4 years ago and again at the end of September last year. I highly recommend at least the end of Sept if not mid-late October. It's getting cooler here and there it's still in the mid-upper 80s and even low 90s.

For 5-days I would do San Fran/Napa ... just enough City Life & Romance for 5-days.
Europe I would not do in less than 8-10 days, especially with the costs (Euro v $) now a days - that trip has to be worth your stay.

If we pick Phoenix, it would be Oct/Nov - I won't be able to handle the heat.
Concerning Europe, we would want to go for longer than 5 days but I'm not sure if we'll have the time off to do that so I guess that will have to wait till the following year
