POLL: how many is too many?

POLL: how many is too many?

Is 15 place settings too much? We were going to register for 12, but the guy at BB&B said to do 15. We do have a large family, but I'm not sure if 15 is overkill. We also did 15 of stemware and flatware to match. But now I'm wondering if we should change it to 12. Help!

I would say it depends upon the size of your family and how often you will actually entertain.

Yeah, if you generally have 12+ people at any sort of family gathering, then I'd keep the 15. Try to think back to past holidays and see how many you come up with--I think THAT's your best judge as to how many pieces you'll need.

I would just keep the fifteen. It is just a registry number that doesn't mean you will get them all, therefore go ahead have fun!!

I actually registered and got 24. But that is mainly because i am one of 5 kids and he is one of 6 kids so if we have fun our family we are over the 14, and fortunoff was running a speical on my china in multiples of 12 so I got 24.... no idea where i am going to put it, but that is to be thought of in january

Our families aren't THAT big! But when we go to Christmas dinner at my FH's family, there are always 17-20 people there.

I registered for 16 - enough for me, FH, my parents, FILs, FBILs and FSILs (and significant others) and my siblings (with significant others).

I compromised, and knocked it down to 14, to have an even number, and then it's not so many

I think 12 is a good start....it's not like you will be having huge dinner parties on a regular basis, right? You can always buy more....

We registered for 16 and it won't be enough for our families. The odds are that we WILL get all of our settings because when people ask us what we want from the regsitry, we tell them 'china'. HOWEVER, since we have a Lenox pattern, we may decide to supplement our 'first run' pieces with 'seconds' purchased from the outlets in order to have enough for everyone (assuming we have both of our families together). We won't use them unless we need to but at least it will look ok should we find the need.
