The reason I'm asking if because I found this set I love, but it's $129, and I thought it would be too much.

IMO that is on the high end of average.

The first set I saw & loved was $159/setting, plus hostess set, etc. We ended up not getting that one (not because of cost, but because the pattern was not versitile enough), the one we got was $89/set, I think.

ETA: My everyday is $20/place from 10 Strawberry Street

The set I loved was by Kate Spade, and I think I'm not only concerned of the price, but even though it's a very plain pattern, I would be afraid of it being discontinued or something, so I may go with a brand that's been around longer, like Lenox or Mikasa.

There is always the Lenox Opal Innocence that I love, which is about $80 a set. This way, I can go a little trendier with my everyday dishes if I want and not feel so guilty, lol.

Everyday ~$25 per setting
Fine ~$50 per setting

I think it is very hard to say accurately since they are always on sale. If I bought my place settings at the MSRP it would be $158.00. Now it is on sale for $79.00 but is usually sold for about $109.00. Would I ever spend $158.00 or expecr anyone else to? No way. They mark it up high to make it look like you are getting a deal.

I think you are probably a better judge of your guests than we are: do you have guests who would love to buy you china, and would they have a ceiling on price? Also ask yourself: If I don't receive all the china as gifts, would I mind spending the money to complete the set?

To answer your question, my fine china is a Wedgewood pattern priced a little less than the pattern you are eyeing.

LOL, at this rate, spending another $2K on PLATES sounds like peanuts! Ha!

Nah, I'm sure I'll find something that we'll love at a price we're both comfortable with.
