poll: if invited to a bridal shower... do you send a gift no matter what?

Just curious...

Basically, i always send a gift. I thought that was always the nice, polite thing to do.

But throughout this wedding, i've come to realize that most people are not like that. So i'm just curious what everyone else does.

for showers, yes in my opinion you should sent a gift... however, there were plenty of people who didnt send anything to mine, so i wont bother with them...

i guess i'm the uncouth person here. LMAO

i send a gift it's it's a good friend, and i can't go. the reason i say this--is cause i've received many shower invites in the past few years (baby & bridal) for relatives that i barely know or friends of a friends that i've never really associated....and i truly believe it was JUST to get a gift out of us. IMHO that is tacky and i didn't feel the need to send anything. i mean if i barely know you or haven't heard from or seen you in YEARS, why are you inviting me to this event?

(like when my cousin sent us a shower invite to her daughter's baby shower 3 days b4 the shower date....and she NEVER invited us to her daugher's wedding or bridal shower.)

I would always send a gift, but not everyone sent one to me that didn't attend - and I thought that was pretty crappy.

I send a gift. Sometimes I send a gift even if i'm not invited to the shower. It depends if I like the person or not.

I always send a gift.

I sent a gift to my FH's cousin - who I met once (and she was pregnant already) at another one of FH's cousins baby showers. I sent her a gift, with FH's mom, since I wasnt going to PA to go to her shower - and needless to say I never got a thank you.

So I tell his mom I never got a thank you and that I was kinda mad (they really dont like this certain family anyway) and I end up getting one way later. Apparently she has a friend Meaghan who spells her name like me (yea right) and didnt know who the gift was from.

So I am done sending shower gifts just cause I was invited. Im sure this girl wont be sending me a damn thing!

Wait! You mean you SEND a gift on top of a shower gift, engagement party gift and day of wedding gift?

I have never sent a gift. How many gifts is one couple suppose to get?

Or do you mean if you are unable to attend one of the above functions then you send a gift in your place?

I actually feel the same way. I know I was invited a few times to events so I could bring a gift. I now politely decline if I don't know the person enough.

Yes, I would. Plenty of people who were invited to mine and did not come did not - but I would still send them something if the situation were reversed- thats just the way I am.

I do! I either send it with someone I know or order something online and have it delivered.

Depends on who it is. If it's family, I chip in with my own sisters and Mom on their gift. We like combining our funds to get the bigger items or complete a set of something.

But there was one family member that I didn't chip in on a gift for. I received a third-hand verbal invite less than a week before the shower. If you didn't have the presence of mind to remember me, or you just couldn't be bothered to get my address, then I can't be bothered spending money on a present for you.

Re: poll: if invited to a bridal shower... do you send a gift no matter what?

good question...I have the same problem...maybe this will help...

My coworker's daughter in law (whom I've met once) is pregnant and having a baby shower. She invited me to the baby shower and another one of my coworkers. I told her I couldn't go.

Now, my coworker will be invited to my bridal shower, but I don't think it is necessary for me to go to her daughter in law's shower. I don't think i'll be giving a gift. That is just getting ridiculous.

Hope it helps somewhat.

Yes, I always send a gift.

My real problem is deciding 'to go' or not to baby or bridal showers if I barely know the person. I prefer to not go and I've been working on not feeling bad about it.

I figure, those who didn't come to my showers....well, I didn't miss them either!

I think it's strange to invite people to your shower that you've met once, or don't really know. I would be embarrassed. Doesn't that look like someone trying to maximize their presents?

I'd rather have a smaller gathering of people I know and love than a room full of strangers who felt obligated to be there.
