I wanted to have either strolling violinists or maybe someone playing the piano and singing requests during the cocktail hour.. I went to my DJ today ( who is always really honest with me) and said why are you gunna waste your money on that? everyone is so busy talking during the cocktail hour that they will be drowned out by the chatter. ( Esp. loud Italian weddings!) So even though I thought it was a really nice idea.. I have never seen it in person and am now not sure if I should do it. FBIL also said hes been to a few with the strolling violinists and thought it was really annoying?!?! Help!

I think piano is a great idea. The strolling violins are a bit much though.

I think you do need some type of background music for the cocktail hour.. but your DJ is right- a singer will not be able to rise above the noise... and I do think the strolling violin thing is a little much..
How about just a Piano player?

I think they both sound like a nice idea. But I would probably choose a piano player.

Well considering FBIL already has seen them in action. I wouldn't do it. You Dj is also right that cocktail hour is all about the chit chat.

I think you should have some kind of background music. Maybe the piano player.... or a saxaphonist....my hall has a player piano in the cocktail hour room already!
ETS: I mean a player piano...a piano that plays by itself....
