FI and I are trying to make a decision on the cocktail music. Here is the information to help you answer:
We are having trumpeteers greet the guests when they are arriving in front of the castle.
There will be a string quartet for the ceremony.
We got a 10-piece orchestra for the reception. They are only going to play disco/funk/r&b type music.
We are having a jazz hour post party.
For the cocktail hour, should we have the string quartet play again or should we have a paino player play classical music?
Please don't factor in price or inconvenience of having separate vendors when voting. Thanks.

WOW, Can I come to your wedding? I love the selection that you have already. I voted for the piano player. I personally love this. You want light backround music, so everyone can talk and not even realize that music is playing JMO.

I voted for the piano player, but I'd prefer to have standards playing over classical music. JMO though. I'm not a fan of classical.

We definitely don't like show songs or elton john/billy joel type music. It would have to be classical music.

I voted for the piano player. I think that the string quartet is great for the ceremony, but the piano player would jazz things up a bit more during the cocktail hour and get people more prepared and in the mood for dancing at the reception.

I would go for the strings. I actually think strolling violins would be nice. Classical piano doesn't seem to be appropriate for this

I did the exact same thing...minus the trumpeteers. For the ceremony (in the church) we had a string quartet, organist and vocalist.
For the cocktail hour, I debated this question as well. I went with the piano player. My cocktail hour was an hour and a half so, for the first half we had just the piano player and then we added a saxaphone so it was the piano player and the sax to make things more lively before the reception.
