No restrictions - teens cna just walk in and get condoms, no questions ask
Opt-in form - in order to ahve access to the condoms, the parnets have to ahve singed a 'permission slip'
Opt -out form- parents have the option of signing a form that would exclude thier children from getting condoms, other than that any kid can get them (this si what they had at my HS..I think omost parents ignored it)
No condoms alowed under any circumstances
Other; Do you think they should have a basic sex ed class first, Do you think they should be ahnded ut to every student? etc etc

I said yes, with the opt-out option, however, it would be easy enough for a kid to have one of her friends get them.

Re: POLL: Should Condoms be available to HS students?
lets be honest...most of us probably had sex at least once before we graduated high school...so we shouldn't be niave and think that teens are not going to have sex. I dont think that we should encourage it...but its going to happen any way. So I think that we should make sure that teens are responable if they are going to have sex....so I think that condems should be available in H.S....but I realize that some parents would be outraged at this, so these parents should be able to Opt Out.

Re: POLL: Should Condoms be available to HS students?
Funny I remember sex ed taught in the fifth grade and this was in major suburbia before the AIDS epidemic hit the world (1979-80) I asked questions and was give answers. I took it for what it was.
Now that I am a tax paying citizen and I see the irresponsible behavior of people who have and raise children when they simply cannot afford to. I resent having my tax dollars spent for this.
So yes, I do support condoms in high schools without permission from parents. Kids are going to d what they are going to do anyway with or withOUT permission. I know I never asked my mom if I could have sex. I would much rather give a teenager a condom than risk another child born at risk.

I think that condoms should be available in HS - maybe with an opt-out form simply to appease all the parents. Perhaps if condoms were more readily available at my HS we would have had a lower incidence of teen pregnancy (perhaps...).
If all else fails, kids whose parents opt-out (as I am sure mine would have) can always make the trip to Planned Parenthood to get condoms.

definately available. I also think they should mainly give them out to girls, so that they have a chance to control the situation. I think a girl is more likely to reach in her bag and give the guy one, then the guy getting one out of his wallet. In HS, most of my girlfriends had no problems using condoms unless their guy talked them out of it.

YES - most definitely. Guys NEVER have condoms - (if they carried condoms around, they would probably get laid more often, but I guess that never occurs to any of them). They just give you a blank look when you ask if they have a condom.

i dont think this will promate or help the issue. kids will buy them on their own. There is needs to be education and parenting.
Education and parenting is where any school related thing goes to. its funny because everybody blame the school for any and everything.

I hear what you are saying, but for unemployed teens who get it on like rabbits, condoms can be expensive. And teens don't want to risk being seen in local drug store buying them. In NY, drug stores are all over the place, but in other towns they are scarce.

Re: POLL: Should Condoms be available to HS students?
I don't think giving out condoms in school will increase or decrease the rate of teens having sex. If kids want to have sex they will, if they don't, they wont. I went to a school that gave out condoms. We had the opt out form (given out at orientation freshman year I think) and I think my parents intended to end it in but I told them it was stupid and there was no point b/c I wouldn't want them anyway. Also my senior year locker was right down the hall from the office where you could get condoms, in fact FH and I used to make out in a corner right near that office, And no, the thought never even occured to me to go in to get condoms or that it was giving permission. I didn't want to have sex, I decided to wait longer and I did. Exposure wasn't going to change anything. On the other hand there are kids who are going to have sex, condoms or no. I've heard a lot of stories about kids being intimidated buying condoms. I went ot shcool in manhattan and I live in queens, so if I wnated condoms, there were a vast number of palces to buy them, but for kids in small towns, there's that fear of running into a parents or a friend of the family or something. I don't think it increases the teemn sex rate at all, just makes it more likely that kids who are having sex will have safer sex, because it will be easier and free.
This is, I think, a spearate issue from sex ed. I had 'health' class in a very liberal manhattan public school and it was VERY heavily abstinence based, and it was given the 2nd term of Junior year, so most of the kids who were going to have sex in HS already had. Even so I think age 17 is too late to be touting the abstinence theme. I think the whole sex ed thing needs to be revamped, and parents need to play a larger role. I was always really curious as a child and my sis had medical books, being a nursing student (much older than I am), so I knew about sex long before my parents tried to talk to me about it when I was 15. I said 'oh I learned about that in school. Gotta go'. lol

Yes I agree. Some kids may be embarassed or just not have the money. HONESTLY to most teenagers why spend there 'hard earned' money or even whatever little money they can get their hands on and go 'waste' it on a condom when you can use the 'pull out method' and use your money for Mcdonalds or going out or whatever.

well..this is called being responsible...god forbid if we act like adults before turning offically into an adult. If you old enough to know whats at stake with have sex like STD's and Preggo...you should be smart enough to do it right. And this is what is wrong because they arent smart.
I consider myself lucky being raised where i was and hanging out with good crowds. Then at a young age, i was forced to be an adult. I'm glad this happen cause had i started being an adult when i got older...life could be so different

Don't you laugh at these same teens who are so willing to buy a pack of $7.00 cigarettes/day and refuse to spend just about that same amount for their sexual encounter on condoms . It could cost them hundreds of thousands if the girl becomes pregnant if their 'pull out method' fails .
I laugh again if they are too embarrassed to buy condoms...they are not mature or ready for sex. Some teens really don't think longterm...It's all heat of the moment, about immediate gratification with damaging long term consequences

Re: POLL: Should Condoms be available to HS students?
I voted yes, with no restrictions.
Teens are going to have sex when and if they to want regardless. They aren't going to ask their parents if it's okay for them to have condoms handy. I don't think having or not having condoms readily available will sway them one way or the other. However, if they have already decided that they are going to have sex and condoms are not easily available, or they have to go through some sort of 'embarassment' to purchase them, I believe they WILL be less likely to use them.

Re: POLL: Should Condoms be available to HS students?
teens are at the peak of sexual exploration so i voted YES! but not like it's 'permission' to have it but they're going to do it regardless. allowing condoms in HS shows me the school officials eyes are open and they're doing something about it. it's very responsible. i would also hope this condom includes pamphlets of info on std's, pregnancies and etx. does it? this should be brought up. in each package a student picks up that contains a condom should also contain important info. in my HS of some department had condoms to give out but didn't include the vital info that comes with the territory. bad mistake! we had some teen pregnancies.. i knew of a few who had to abort their's.. and a few who took the 'morning after pill' a few times. very irresponsible. so again, i vote for YES along with related information.

Ueah I mean it's awful. I was a lot more responsible as a kid ( I decided if you're not mature enough to talk about it, and you're not mature enough to deal w/ the risks and go buy condoms, you're not ready to ahve sex. but frighteningly enough most kids are not that mature. but the heat of the moment thing is very powerful with teens especially. They have impulsive behavior, and if it's theheat of the momen,t they're not gonna stop, go get condoms and come back. At least if they're avaiable at school for free, I feel like kids will go get them and maybe keep them in theirbackpack or wallet (as unsafe as that is) and have a higher chance of having one around when the moment gets hot. One of my HS boyfriends got his college GF pregnant (I think we were like 21 at the time and his gf was 26..should have known better) because they had run out of condoms and didn't want to interrupt their moment. So even adults show this kind of completel irresponsible behavior
