POLL -- Spinoff to Michi's Office Affair -- Have you ever been sexually harassed in the workplace?

Was it a subtle form that went over your head or that you disregarded.. or was it -- outright going to see a lawyer sexual harassment.

How was it resolved?

I was. It was in Nov. at my old job (where I was being harrased but not sexually and was ready to quit anyway) This guy who I hung out with for a while (when mike and I were broken up years ago) he went to the basment with me cause I had to move things around and he offered to help me out. He took my arm and through me in the corner and started kissing my neck and I was like I gotta go he was like no you don't I was like im getting married in a few months and he said Mike doesn't have to know. He then pointed to the corner and said we could have sex there and no one would see theres no camera. I was like I gotta go hit him and walked away. I didn't tell anyone I told mike and he wanted to kill him I begged him not to cause I didn't want to marry him from jail. He told me that I had to quit so that was what made me quit. I should have suid them for both issues but o well

P.S. I saw this kid a few weeks ago ( I havent told anyone about this not even our mutual friends) he was talking to a mutual friend I said hi to him he just said goodbye to my friend and walked away. HE SHOULD BE NICE TO ME HELLO!

I worked for a distributor in the construction industry ... Basically a warehouse with an office ... Let's just say there is A LOT of dirty old men out there ... I usually was VERY good at putting them in their place though! Nothing like watching a 50+ year old man get a tongue lashing by a 20-year old girl.
The very married warehouse manager came on to me after I had quit, I literally kicked him out of my car - boot in chest!

Yes, it was anything but subtle - but I didn't let it bother me. I did eventually quit the place but not as a direct result of it.

And believe it or not it was done by employment lawyers.

Yes. I did nothing about it at the time, but a few months later when I got laid off (instead of someone else who was not a good worker at all) I sent a letter to our VP and the HR VP.

Nothing came of it because I know it looked like I was making accusations because I was laid off and I left it with notifiying them what happened.

Yep! It was my first job. I was 15 & my mom worked in HR, so she knew exactly who to call & what to do....I took their a$$ to court & they went bankrupt trying to pay all the lawyer's fees. Then the guy who did it had to face criminal charges of intending to harm a minor.

Yup. It was my summer job during college. I worked as an administrator in a direct advertising firm. My third summer (before my senior year), a new 'boss' was hired and he made me feel beyond uncomfortable all the time, to the point that I would not be in the same room alone with him. I loved my real boss to deal (the owner) so suing wasn't an option. I quit since I was the summer help and this guy was a full-timer but he was skeevy!

sure!
when i was in high school, i worked in a small local store and the manager there used to harass all of the young girls who worked there...standing at the bottom of the stairs to look up our skirts, looking to see who was wearing a skirt, and then asking her to go up on the ladder to get something....asking me if i was wearing underwear....it goes on and on.....

years later he died in a car accident....so i felt a little guilty for saying how terrible of a person he was....

and last year, at the school i was working at - there was a teacher I shared a duty with who used to make comments about me all the time.....would walk behind me and tell me what he was looking at....call me sexy...ask me about my relationship with my then fiance.... i spoke to other teachers about it, and they suggested i write it up, in case anything else happened and then go to the principal...but it ended eventually.
turns out this year, there were some students accusing his of harassment as well...how guilty do i feel now??

I think many things that have happened to me in my career - - many would consider sexual harrassment. I mostly laugh it off. Things have made me uncomfortable but I have learned to handle it and I don't let it bother me. I really don't want to get myself or my professional repuation involved in such a thing unless I found it was causing me extreme distress that I could not work. This is serious stuff not just for the offendor but also the person who is pbeing harrassed.

One time though a girl did try to file a sexual harrassment case and next thing thru the rumor mill my name was brought up as someone else involved in the suit. The girl who brought up the suit told HR that she saw me also being harrassed by the same person. I squashed that quick. As soon as rumor got back to me, I went straight to my boss and made sure my name was no where involved in it. It was alleged her boss made inappropriate comments to her. He never did such to me - maybe a baby or something like that comment but nothing too bad and she had a bad reputation to begin with.....Luckily it never came to anything and I wasn't involved...My company didn't always have a lot of younger woman working here so I guess this girl thought I would be her ally....

Yes - well I felt like it was (sexual harrassment and just general harassment - it was't outwardly mean but the person knew he was pushing my buttons)

I quit the job but never said anything to anyone. He was tight w/ my boss and frankly I didn't think she would do anything about it.

I'm much happier now.

Come to think of it I was in h.s. too but I didn't care it was a long running joke so it can't be considered harassment.

My old boss was a jerk. He thought because he was gay, he could get away with saying inappropriate things to me. I let alot of things slide but when he started saying things infront of coworkers and clients...I reported him.

The owners of the company were looking to get rid of him anyway, b/c other people in the office complained about him too and he was fired soon after.

I was. And it ended up that HE was forced to quit because of it. HA!!!! It was one of the best feelings in the world!!

I'll never forget going to an after work party and having a round of applause break out since I was the one who got him out of there!
