Very cool.. I'm hot and cold when it comes to wit.. sometimes I'm on.. sometimes.. way off!

But I think I'm like a Kramer myself..

The more off the wall.. the more bizarre.. and juvenile.. and sometimes sophomoric.. and 1/2 of the time.. tasteless.. is my cup o' tea.

For example, Sunday morning I woke up next to the FW giggling my head off over a dream I had. For whatever reason, Beavis and Butthead were in it.. and they used the term, 'fart-knocker'.. I was giggling so hard.. I woke her up and she wasn't too happy about that. She wasn't mad because we had to get up early but I could not stop laughing b/c of that word. She just looked at me and said, 'What's wrong with you?

And I responded, 'I'm a fart-knocker.'

Which I freely admit to all here.......




BTW... what's a 'fart-knocker'?.. seriously.

I guess I'm pretty sarcastic. To say that I'm witty is probably to give myself too much credit.

One note: I'd argue that 'ethnic humor' really isn't 'adult' at all.

I enjoy ANY of the types of humor you listed above .. depends on my mood, and the comedian/show/etc.

Me personally, I'm sarcastic. Too much for my own good sometimes

FH is definitely falls into the witty/silly category.. honest to goodness NO one makes me laugh as hard as he does..

I disagree..

Let's say that i'm telling an Irish joke.. (I say Irish because I'm Irish so no one gets offended... ) there are plenty of Irish jokes that may not be XXX.. but that you would not want to tell in front of a young child.

So they're jokes for adults really because most of the time the kid would not understand.

That's where I was going with that.

A man who reeked of booze flopped on a subway seat next to a priest. The man's tie was stained with liquor, his face was plastered with red lipstick, and a bottle of gin was sticking out of his coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began reading. After a few minutes, he turned to the priest and asked, 'Say, Father, what causes arthritis?'
The priest replied, 'It's caused by loose living, sleeping with wicked women, and drinking too much alcohol.'
'Well, I'll be,' the drunk muttered, returning to his paper.
A few minutes later, the priest nudged the man to apologize. 'I'm very sorry,' the priest said. 'I didn't mean to come down on you so strongly. How long have you suffered from arthritis?'
'I don't have it, Father,' the man said. 'I was just reading about the Pope.'

Right now I don't have a sense of humor.

This wedding planning sucked it all out of me.

I see what you mean. That totally makes sense. But what I meant was that, for me personally, ethnic humor doesn't really seem like 'adult' behavior to me. I generally try to be lighthearted about things, but this is an exception, because I worry that ethnic humor only perpetuates stereotypes and, in some cases, even racial hatred. Example: my father occasionally makes jokes about people from the Middle East. I think that MOST of his jokes are funny, but not those. And I don't think he's acting like an adult when he tells those jokes. That's just my opinion, of course.

I see what you mean totally as well.. but I think that humor is just that.. humor. It's should not be meant to express hatred or stereoetypes ever..

If someone tells me a good Irish joke.. for example.. I am gonna laugh.. I think it's important that people be able to differentiate between humor and what's meant to be malicious.. certainly we have to be able to laugh at ourselves.. otherwise.. the world is gonna not be a too happy place.

Also, I think it's hard to classify yourself as intelligent or clever and witty in the humor department. Those are more opinions, I think of what other people would think. I don't know if I could ever call myself that because I really don't know. But I DO know I'm sarcastic.

Here's where I was going..

Intelligent humor that involves a large build-up and possible explaining by the comedian to demonstarte the satire.

Clever and witty is a funny remark right off the top of the head. Timing is essential.

You're right.. they are both opinions.. but the delivery is different from my perspective.
