Poll: Which dress? Silk chiffon or silk tricotine - please help!

So I'm going with my sister to J Crew today to order a bm dress to see if we like it for the wedding. I like two dresses - the silk chiffon Sophia dress and the silk tricotine Sophia dress. Neither of these dresses will be available to look at in the store but you can order from their phone for free shipping so we're going to the store.

Which one should I choose? What the heck is tricotine? It looks thicker and when I looked it up it says it's a sturdy worsted fabric with a double twill, used for dresses and suits. I think the tricotine would be thicker but I think I like the floaty look of the chiffon, even though it may not be as warm for October.

Which would you choose? The dress would be in espresso, if that matters and the chiffon one is $165 and the tricotine is $150 but price doesn't matter to us for this.

no help. . I actually like them both. .. too bad you can't try them on b/c sometimes fabrics look very different on.. like the chiffon has less structure so can be more flattering, or less flattering to certain figures. .. the floaty part is pretty. . good luck!

I know! I hate that I can't have her try it on! Maybe I'll ask them if we can buy both and return the one we don't like to the store - they have free shipping when you order from the store - I just hope you can return to the store!

I just got a bm dress from jcrew for my friends wedding. The 2nd choice is nice, maybe for something more formal. The 1st choice would probably be more flowy and comfotrable

Sometimes when you go into the shops they have swatches of the fabrics.. I would probably have my bms try on each type of fabrics (but obviously a different style of dress since they don't have them there) and see which one is more flattering to their figure. HTH!

There are some jcrew stores that will actually carry some of the dresses. Additionally, I was told that you can ask them to order the two dresses and have you try them on in the store and then you buy the one you like.

I'm using the Sophia silk tricontine in deep atlantic. It's gorgeous and I love the material. I work chiffon in a wedding once and the dress was long so this may have made the difference, but it had all these snags on it by the end of the night from catching on things.
