I voted for lake grove becuase thats were FH and I are now looking anywya, the taxes are really affordable. Be careful though, north lake grove is in Middle Country school, (I honestly dont know anything about this district) whereas South Lake grove is in Sachem which I know is a good district. Just make sure you know what SD you are in. Also be careful as some of the towns you listed with charge not only town taxes but also village (parts of lake grove are included)
Kings Park is a good SD but honstly the area near teh train station isnt so nice and remember these are diesel trains so they are louder!
Ronkonkoma is also a nice area, my brother lives there and we are looking there as well. Its in a good school district and my brothers neighbors are great with lots of little kids around. And its affordable! and a nice feature, its near the LIE and has a major train station, which makes it convient for any commuting necessary!

I think that as far as the 'good town to start a family' it's based upon you and your husband and what you are looking for specfically... I think that this whole 'blue ribbon' mentality has totally changed in the past years and while some people have their good/bad towns, it's really up in the air...A 'good town' can change in a year or two.. as for going up in value, I'm not sure of what you mean.
