Polycystic Ovary Disease

Polycystic Ovary Disease

I hear this is somewhat common, does anyone have this?

I am currently not TTC (because of that Varicella shot, I have to wait 3 months from the last shot)

I was diagnosed with this when I was younger, and was put on BC pill (I had irregular periods, BC regulated my periods).

I have been off the pill for 5-6 months now, and my last cycle, I did not ovulate, instead I bled for 20 days (my MD says it means I didn't ovulate).

So, turns out I didn't 'grow out of this', and may have some fertility issues.

On the up side, since I've been off the pill, I've had 4 normal cycles.

Just wondering if anyone else also has this diangosis.

My MD is talking about using Clomid when we are ready to TTC to get my ovaries 'up and running'.

Re: Polycystic Ovary Disease

I was resently diagnosed with it - right about when we started ttc. I had gone off the pill and wasn't ovulating on my own.

I did go on clomid and we conceived during out first clomid cycle!! I'm in my 10th week now. There's definitely hope for you, so don't worry!

Lots of women on this board have posted that they have it too. Try doing a search for PCOS to see other posts.

I am going to be tested for this soon. I keep running into people with this - there is some website I have heard of - soulcysters or something like that - it is a website all about PCOS and a posting board

I have PCOS and I take metformin for it. I now ovulate on my own with the aid of metformin. My doctor did not want to put me on clomid because I ovulate on metformin. And to be honest, I am petrified of multiples and that is why I will not do anything in western medicine. There are a couple of books that you can get on Amazon about PCOS. There are diets that they suggest you follow, along with losing weight.

I have begun to work with an herbalist and accupunturist for my PCOS. I had a wonderful period last month. And by that I mean, no crapming, swollen boobs, nastiness, and length of period/flow. The herbalist said that is a 'side affect' of the herbs. I am ovualting in the next few days, so maybe this cycle we will conceive. I finished reading The infertility Cure, and it was an amazing read! Very informative about eastern medicine.

Good Luck to you! Living with PCOS is managable!

Re: Polycystic Ovary Disease

Thank you for the info.

MY MD said I don't present like someone with PCOS, ...I don't really have the symptoms (except for anovulation (and sonogram showed cystic ovaries) and my bloodwork always comes back normal.

But the more I read, you can still have PCOS and not have all those classic symptoms and even have normal bloodwork.

I'm definately doing as much research as possible.

I'm not concerned about my diet, I changed my whole eating habits a few years ago with the help of a nutritionist...I've always been thin, but I consulted a nutritionist because I don't really eat meat and was concerned about getting all the vitamins and protein necessary...now I do eat some chicken and fish for my protein source, but am going to try tofu, because I really HATE eating meat, always grossed me out.

Hi Kathy ~

I have PCOS also - and I get pregnant on the pill. I too was absolutely petrified about having a hard time getting pregnant and swore to my husband that it was going to take forever just based on all of my symptoms.

Well, apparently infertility is not one of my problems. I find that a lot of the sites fail to mention that just because you have it does not mean you will have trouble conceiving. However, they do have an enormous amount of useful info regarding the symptoms and treatment even if you don't present like a person with PCOS.

If you do have trouble then I would recommend going to a reproductive endocrinologist who specializes in PCOS. I have several friends who have gone this route and have conceived within 6 months.

Best of luck to you!
