POOP Question

POOP Question

For all the Mommies with the newborns...do your kids poop everyday??? Mia pooped everyday when I first brought her home, now she goes every 2 days or every 3 days and now this is the longest stretch of 6 days no poopie.

The doctor isn't worried and advised sugar water or a suppository if she seems uncomfortable. She is a little uncomfortable but nothing major...

I am breastfeeding and supplementing with Isomil.
My poor little girl, where DOES all that food go??

Re: POOP Question

Actually as newborns, JA had quite a number of poopies a day...

I hope the supository works, she must have a tummy ache from 6 days of no poopie! Has she been fussy at all?

Re: POOP Question

I was told when Patrick was little to give him an ounce a water. It helps!

Is the Isomil w/ Iron?? Sometimes that has an effect on the pooping process!

Re: POOP Question

I would just give her plain water - no sugar (bad doctor! j/k...I just don't agree with the 'sugar' advice!)

Soy formulas tend to dry the babies out...so without enough water in their digestive tract, they can get 'backed up.'

Re: POOP Question

Yes, she is a little fussy and I tried to give her just plain water last night but she wouldn't have that... hope she takes the sugar water.

She is on the Isomil with Iron. My poor little girl..and this is only the beginning ..RIGHT MOMMIES???

Re: POOP Question

I guess the sugar helps to let the poop out? I know with my niece (she was older, closer to 6m?) they suggsted apple juice and water and WAMMO, EXPLOSION

I think just about all formulas have iron, right?

I hope she poops soon!

Re: POOP Question

Anna, from what I understand ALL the formula's have iron, some of them have 'low iron' ...pray for a poopie when I get home. Have a great weekend everybody!!

Re: POOP Question

LOL It's all about the pooping, isnt it? I remember DH & I having many many conversations about the baby's poops early on. We still do but not in the same detailed way as we did when he was smaller.

I remember giving Lukie prune juice - very watered down - just a splash of prune juice into water and it did the trick. As her system matures, she will get more regular.

Hope she's 'right as rain' soon

Re: POOP Question

I give Ryan 2 oz. of water w/1 tbs. of corn syrup every day per his ped. He is now a great pooper!! Edited to add that he is on the Isomil Advance formula - the water helps his system and the corn syrup makes it a little sweet, but the real reason for it is that it helps keep the poop soft so its easier to push out...it has made a huge difference in our daily life! Now if I could just get him to nap!!

Re: POOP Question

My boy seems to take after his daddy in the *regularity* department!

Lee, I'm glad to hear 'our' Ped's ok'd H2O, b/c I've been giving it to Sean (sans corn syrup) on my own for about 2 weeks! He HATES it!!!!!!!!!

Re: POOP Question

Kathi, I agree. My Mom has been on me since early on to give him water like they did in the 'old days'. It's not something they recommend doing anymore, but it's definitely helped Ryan. I'm glad 'our' ped seems to have a nice balance between 'old' and 'new' school. I'm going to start cutting the corn syrup back a little bit to see if he can get more used to plain H2O (which he hated) without making pooping too difficult.

Re: POOP Question

Update Mommies:......She's POOPED!, and pooped and pooped and pooped..

She pooped Friday when I got home (for Daddy's B-day present ) and then she went Saturday, Sunday (twice) and then this morning!!!...The sitter gave her some sugar water on Friday and I'm wondering if that did the trick???

I've asked the sitter to give her water now everyday and I too will give less and less sugar until she just enjoys the water. WHew! it's funny how your life changes so much with our little ones...just knowing that they are eating and pooping makes us feel complete.

Re: POOP Question

yeah!! i know how you feel- Julianne gets downright miserable when she doesnt go.
The trick with her is water too...esp this summer ..to keep her hydrated. Told them in daycare to give her some watery juice during the day even if it is only a sip.

On the weekends I carry a water bottle wth me with a splash of apple juice in it.

Funny thing is I carry around a water bottle for myself. Everytime J sees me sip from it- she wants it too! so I give it to her and try not to splash too much...
