FH decided to work a double today so that he could make extra money (he is in the NYPD). He starts at 5:30am. Usually he has meal about 11. Before the second shift he usually has 1 1/2 hours in between to relax.
Today he was on a post he couldn't move from. He didn't get meal until 6pm and didn't have the time in between. He is absolutely miserable. To top it off, he just called and told me that someone hit his new truck outside the precinct and left! He is still there until 11 and then has to be back at 5:30 tomorrow. I feel so terrible for him.

That is horrible. I give NYPD a lot of credit. I could never do it.

wow thats awful! in my opinion the police have the hardest job,,thats tough!

my FH can totally feel your pain hes also NYPD and often has crapy shifts like this!!! i totally stinks but will be worth it when its over... what precient is he in?

I do too! I couldn't do it. I just feel terrible that there is nothing I can do to make him happy. To make matters worse, if I see him tonight I will be sleeping and then tomorrow I go back to SI for the week and won't see him until next Friday. What can I send him to make him smile?

Your FH and one of my BM's FH's seem to be getting OT all the time....maybe I should be questioning my FH when he tells me his precinct doesn't get alot of OT... Or maybe he knows I'll just keep working 3 jobs so he won't have to work extra!

Maybe they are in the same precincts! I guess it depends where you are. This is something new that goes through June every Sunday and another day I believe.

Also, maybe they give the senior guys the overtime. FH just started getting it now after 2 years.

its summer time all the precients are getting tons of over time... FH is a rookie and he can work it everyday if he wants.. its crazy!

Good idea. I know he is golfing on his day off Friday, so I was thinking of calling up and paying for it and maybe throwing in some extras like beers for him and his cousin.

My FH is working from 7:am to 11pm tomorrow I feel awful when he does that, because I don't ever do overtime (salaried). I feel so bad that he has to work so hard. looking for a second job to make extra money.
