Re: portugal?
I was in Portugal last summer and Noiva06 was born there. not sure about any other girls.
that being said, I LOVED Portugal. it is not your typical european country, and although it shares a border and similar language with Spain, IMO that is where it ends. It is a relatively poor country by Eurorpean standards, but that makes it really affordable- we bought so much clothes there (once you shop at Zara's in Portugal you will NEVER want to pay their prices here in the states) fh bought beautiful leather shoes...and I could never forget my 'beautiful dress' yes, I actually call it that.
anyway, the sites to see are also incredible- not sure if you are catholic or not, BUT there is Fatima, the Se cathedral in Porto and so many other wonderful historic sites
and the beauty of it...I was in both Spain and Portugal and I have to say by far my favorite memory was riding a boat on the Duoro (sp) River out to the estuary (mouth) of where it opens to the Atlantic Ocean....spellbinding to say the least
the food is incredible and inexpensive and then there is the Portugese people
the thing that struck me the most about them is that they are genuinely very nice, but they do not pander or cater to tourists....they just go about their daily lives, doing what they have to do, but with a sense that they AND their country do not exist for tourism, they just welcome tourists into their daily lives and say, here come see what we are all about..
not like say in Madrid where you kind of feel like they are putting on a show for you...
so this is my (very ) long take on Portugal but I really just loved it and since it was a different experience for me compared to other countries I've visited, I wanted to impart that on you.
I hope you go and have a fabulous time...I myself am trying to get back there next summer ( Noiva06 )

Re: portugal?
Hi... Well I am a little bias since I was born and raised there until I 8. I personally LOVE it there, it'a a difference way of life, so much simpler and casual and it is not a high maintenance place what so ever. Like Jess said, people there don't go out of the way to impress tourists, they don't hound you to buy gifts, it is what it is. I can offer tons of advice on it depending where you want to go and what you want to do... If you are looking to the beach/party thing, south Portugal is where you want to go and there is a ton of places you can visit if you want to sight see. They have tons of rolling hills in the country side, beautiful castles, museums, etc... Again, I am biased because my entire family is there and I am getting married there in May too (). But I do have plenty of pics if you want, I would be happy to share... I would even post a few but I am at work right now. FM me anytime you have any questions or want some advice....
Jess... Did you see the church in Fatima? Hopefully that is where I am getting married, they are reviewing all my paperwork and will e-mail me when it's all complete! And Hopefully I will see you there in May ( ).
