Posion Ivy- has anyone ever paid to get rid of it?

The lawn guy came out today to give me an estimate on lawn care and he found posion ivy Now that he showed it to me, I see it clearly but i guess I hadn't noticed before.
We got an estimate for $375 The guy comes 3X to make sure there is no new growth. It isnt a one step process.

Not sure.Good thing you didn't step in it.

I think if you wear the proper clothing, you can get rid of it yourself w/o paying someone nearly $400 to get rid of it for you.

Don't even try it. Michele is preggy.

I think $375 is steep. And I think coming back 3x's is steep too! We had poison ivy in the yard and the lawn guy that my landlord uses got rid of it in one visit...and I'm positive it wasn't that pricey.

They come back for inspection but don't charge me extra for that or if they have to re-treat. It is a way of guarenteeing their work.
My mother was almost hospitalized for posion ivy that was in her yard. she cannot even go into my yard right now. So I need it really, really gone. Plus I am have no idea if I am allergic or not so I will not be doing this. Scott might try, but honestly i would rather just have someone do it and get rid of it. I am going to get another quote too.

My FH is very allergic to posion ivy. We were went to the ER 2X last year and he has already been to the Doc for it this year. I swear the stuff jumps on to him. We have to get the stuff out of the back yard. So we have our lawn guy coming to give us a quote.

Didn't realize you were pregnant, so then I say pay someone to do it! Don't want to risk anything with a little one on board!

I would pay someone- but maybe you can get a better price? I would make a few phone calls. A regular landscaper may charge less- maybe one of your neighbors can give you a number.

Can't help you on the quote, I just had a question.
DH and I were discussing this the other day. If they come and use chemicals to get rid of poison ivy, can you still plant stuff in that soil or would it be comtaminated?

I don't think $375 is all that bad especially when you must have it removed and maintained so that it doesn't return.

Our property was covered in PI, however since DH and I are 1) too cheap! and 2) never had a reaction to poison ivy we decided to buy a couple jugs of roundup and tackle it ourselves. Its worked fine for us.

Though its much easier to get a hold on it earlier in the season, right now ours would be going nuts all over the yard and much harder to get handle on.

I don't know how I've never had a reaction... sometimes I don't even wear gloves.

Edited to say: I certainly don't suggest not wearing protective clothing and gloves! I just won't learn until it happens to me!

The guy said that we can plant on the area once everything is dead and the 2 infected trees are removed. Of course, if we use some of the regular chemcials I don't know. the professional stuff will be okay to plant over. And that is also important to me.
Scott would be super cheap about this issue but he doesn't want to take a chance with my health because of the baby. I don't want any problems or to have a problem year after year either.

Yup. That's what I was wondering because we were plnning on doing it ourselves, we saw the chemicals at WalMart but then Jens was concerned that it might damage the soil...
