Hi everyone! I am new to this site and newly engaged. I have a question regarding my older half-sister, who is in her early 50s and married. I am very close with my half-sister and I want her to play an important role in my wedding. Could she be a bridesmaid, despite her age and being married? The other bridesmaids and groomsmen are all in their 20s. What other special role could she have? I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Re: position for much older sister
Sure, she could be a bridesmaid, why not? Or you could make her matron of honor--then she could wear a different dress and not look odd. Or she could be a reader. Talk to her about it, ask her what role she would like and be comfortable with. If she is OK with being a bridesmaid, maybe you could let them choose their own dresses. Do one of those things where they all wear one skirt but can choose the top they want. I know David's and Alfred Angelo have bridesmaids' dresses like that.
Congratualtions!

She can do a reading during the ceremony if being a BM will be too much for her.

congrats on your engagement! depending on how YOU feel, she could absolutely be a matron of honor or a bridesmaid - some girls even have both a maid and a matron of honor! it's not about age - just how close you are!

Re: position for much older sister
There are several things you can do with your half-sister to make her a special part of your wedding. As others have said you could make her your matron of honor that way she can wear the same dress as your other girls, but if she feels uncomfortable being that she is older, she could also wear a different style. If you are getting married in a church you could have her do a reading/ or bring up the gifts. If not, ask her to make a speech at the wedding after the Best Man.
If you already have your MOH set, and plan on having her do a speech you can also incorporate her into the procession. Have her and her husband walk down the isle and then have them introduced after the parents and before the bridal party during the reception.
Good Luck and congratulations again!

She could definitely be a BM! My aunt is 46 and she's one of my BMs.

As long as you make her aware of the BP situation and she is still OK with it, then why not?

I agree with everyone else, she could definetely be a BM, or a reader would be a nice option as well.

Hey lady!! Yeah even if you have a maid of honor, she can be a matron.. just see what she's comfortable with, I'm sure she'll be touched by you wanting to include her and thinking so carefully about it..
